Retro and Vintage styles have been an influence to the modern fashion world. Not only did retro and vintage styles influence fashion, it also plays a very influential role in home designing. With fashion styles, designers find it a must to refer to retro and vintage pieces.

Retro

Retro clothes simply mean old patterns added to new clothing. These fashion designs were inspired by the 50’s, 60’s and 70’s. A lot of the new clothing in your department stores have adapted to retro fashions. The word retro means backwards, which contributes a lot to the definition and description of the term as it applies to the fashion world.

Vintage

On the other hand, vintage styles have a generic term, meaning: “second hand”. Aside from the fact that the style has been borrowed from the previous era, the entire dress or clothes are from that previous era. Generally, vintage clothing was produced during the 1920s to 1980s. These clothing can be usually seen in vintage stores, warehouses and even from your grandmother’s closet.

Difference between Retro and Vintage

Retro styles are clothes that are brand new but were designed based on the fashion of later dates. Vintage styles on the other hand are clothes that were previously owned. Vintage clothing may have been used for over a decade but have been well kept and protected so that it is saleable at a later date. Retro fashion can be incorporated with modern styles to make it more appealing without you looking like you are wearing a costume. Vintage styles can be remodeled or redesigned depending on the new owner’s preference but it is really a few years old.

Whatever your style is, whether you go for a retro inspired look or a vintage ensemble, it would always look best if it has a personal touch on it.
