Roof vs Ceiling

The terms roof and ceiling are used interchangeably by some thinking of them as one and the same thing. However, the two terms refer to two entities as distinct as a nut and a bolt and there is no reason to fail to distinguish between the two. This article will remove all doubts from the minds of the readers pertaining roof and ceiling once and forever.

Roof

Roof is the uppermost part of a building. It is the roof that provides protection to the inside of the building from the weather and the elements. All dwellings need a roof to be safe from the heat, cold and rain. There are countries with extreme weather conditions and roof must be designed to insulate the inside of the building to provide protection from such weather conditions. There are various types of roofs that are made depending upon the requirements or the purpose of the structure. Then there are rules and regulations to make roofing safe that need to be adhered to while making a roof.

Wide ranging materials are used in different countries to make a roof. From the most humble banana leaves to concrete, ceramic tiles and even steel and other metals are being used today to make roofing of various structures.

Ceiling

Ceiling is the uppermost part of the surface of a room so that when you are inside a room, you look at its ceiling when you look overhead. It is not a part of the roofing but an artificial structure or surface that is made to look pleasing as well as one that is also durable. Ceiling is the part of a room and people try to make it as attractive as possible to have a nice ambience inside their rooms. There are many decorative styles of ceilings in vogue these days and one can go for a style depending upon the size of the room as well as his budget.

• Roof is the top most part of the structure of a part while ceiling is what you look at when inside a room

• Roof protects the inside of the building from heat, cold, and rains while a ceiling is mostly for aesthetic purposes

• A roof needs to be very durable for the safety of the inmates of the building while a ceiling needs to be pleasing to look at.
