We have Samsung Galaxy Ace 2 and Huawei Ascend G300 aka Asura for the comparison. Both of these smartphones are considered as the upper lower level of the smartphone portfolio. I wouldn’t determine Huawei to have full coverage, but Samsung indeed has full coverage of the smartphone market and they thrive hard to keep it that way. Samsung Galaxy Ace 2

Here comes another smartphone you can invest without any second thoughts. It doesn’t look elegant and expensive but has the same design as the rest of the Galaxy family. The rounded edges come more rounded, and it is also somewhat thicker. However, that was to be expected since it’s the second version of Galaxy Ace after all. It comes with 3.8 inches PLS TFT capacitive touchscreen display featuring a resolution of 800 x 480 pixels at a pixel density of 246ppi. It is bright and has vibrant colors, and we are pleased with the resolution it offers. Ace 2 is powered by 800MHz dual core processor with 768MB of RAM and runs on Android OS v2.3 Gingerbread. I would say the operating system is a good choice for a processor of this clock rate and Samsung will not offer an upgrade for ICS for this handset which is understandable. It has an internal storage of 4GB with the option to expand using microSD card up to 32GB.

The handset comes with 5MP camera with autofocus and LED flash along with geo tagging and the capability to capture 720p videos @ 30 frames per second. The secondary camera is of VGA quality, but that would suffice for video conferencing purposes. The connectivity is defined using HSDPA that can provide speeds up to 14.4 Mbps. The Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n ensures continuous connectivity and Ace 2 can also act as a wi-fi hotspot to share your internet connection with your friends. Consumer can also stream rich media content wirelessly to their Smart TV using the DLNA capability. It has 1500mAh battery, but we don’t have statistics on the battery usage.

Huawei Ascend G300 (Asura)

In eastern culture, Asura is kind of a semi-god, and I don’t know whether that’s what they meant by the code name Asura, but it sure would suit this handset. It has 4.0 inches TFT capacitive touchscreen that features a resolution of 800 x 480 pixels at a pixel density of 233ppi. It has three buttons at the bottom and has an ergonomic design, but Asura just doesn’t look expensive. It is rather thin at 10.5mm, but weight is somewhat hefty at 140g. Ascend G300 is powered by 1GHz single core processor with presumably 512MB of RAM. It will run on Android OS v2.3 Gingerbread which we consider a good choice rather than going up to v4.0 ICS, which would have been a disaster. As far as we could gather from the announcement, Asura would have 2GB of internal memory with the option to expand it using a microSD card up to 32GB.

Huawei has also included a 5MP camera in Ascend G300 that has autofocus and LED flash. It also supports geo tagging and can capture videos too. It will connect to internet using HSDPA connectivity that has a speed up to 7.2Mbps and the Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n ensures continuous connectivity. Asura can also act as a wi-fi hotspot and share its internet connection with peers.

Conclusion

In a case like what we have here, there is no apparent conclusion. It all depends on how you perceive these smartphones. If you like one, you certainly can invest in it. However, before we go to that, let me give you some hints that would save your money. First thing you’d like to know is that theoretically; the processor in Galaxy Ace 2 should perform better than that of Huawei Ascend G300 because it is a dual core. We can only confirm this by performing some benchmarking tests because there is a possibility that, in reality, Asura would outperform Ace 2 due to implementation efficiencies, although that’s highly unlikely. Both display panels are mid-range and offer the same resolution, so I won’t comment on that. There is a difference in the speeds the network connectivity supports which may affect your routine in which case Ace 2 would have the faster connectivity. Other than these, there aren’t much objective factors we can concentrate on apart from the heftiness of Ascend G300 which wouldn’t really be a pain if you’re not going to keep the smartphone in your hand for prolonged times. We are not sure about the prices these handsets would be offered, but if I take a guess, I’d say Samsung Galaxy Ace 2 is going to be offered at a higher price than Huawei Ascend G300.
