Difference Between Samsung Galaxy Grand Duos and LG Intuition

Samsung Galaxy Grand Duos vs LG Intuition

Smartphones with bigger screens are usually considered as high end smartphones. This is because of several reasons. The first reason is that most technology enthusiasts enjoy when the display panel is in the range of 5 inches. They can do better and more work with the improved size of the display panel. Hence they are more likely to pay more to get their hands on a smartphone with a bigger screen. On the contrary, the general perception is that a big display panel is a call for trouble. With that attitude, it’s not surprising that no major company manufactures smartphones with big screens for the lower end of the market. However, Samsung has stepped up that imaginary line and revealed their plan to offer a smartphone with a big screen to the lower end of the market. This needs careful engineering so that Samsung won’t be blamed for feature cut downs as a bargain for the price. We picked on of the similar product that is aimed at the lower level of the high end market from LG to compare with Samsung Galaxy Duos. Let us look at LG Intuition and Samsung Galaxy Duos collectively and understand the different opportunities that they pose us.

Samsung Galaxy Grand Duos Review

As mentioned in the introduction; Samsung Galaxy Grand Duos is not a top end product, but the exterior appearance has a striking resemblance to its better, bigger brothers Samsung Galaxy Note II and Samsung Galaxy S III. In fact, it’s more likely that you wouldn’t be able to differentiate the two at a distance. This will give a significant edge and prestige to this lower end smartphone. Another interesting observation we made was a slight pattern at the back plate which gives it a sense of elegance. As the name suggests; Galaxy Grand Duos give you the capability to use two SIMs at once and Samsung also offers a single SIM version called Galaxy Grand. This smartphone is powered by 1.2GHz Dual Core processor although Samsung hasn’t revealed on which chipset it is running. The RAM is acceptable at 1GB, and the internal storage stagnates at 8GB but fortunately Grand Duos has the ability to expand storage using microSD card up to 64GB. The operating system at play is Android OS v4.1 Jelly Bean, which is a wise addition.

Samsung Galaxy Grand Duos has 5.0 inch capacitive touchscreen featuring a resolution of 800 x 480 pixels at a pixel density of 187ppi. Before you point it out; yes this smartphone’s display panel is disappointing and pixelated. Offering a WVGA resolution on a 5 inch display panel is actually a terrible mistake and since this is still a development version, we are hoping that Samsung will make some amendments for the display panel. It has 3G HSDPA connectivity along with Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n for continuous connectivity. You can also share your internet connection by hosting a Wi-Fi hotspot. Unfortunately, Grand Duos doesn’t come with NFC connectivity. It features the usual optics at 8MP back camera that can capture 1080p HD videos @ 30 frames per second, and the front camera is 2MP, which is good for video conferencing. Grand Duos has 2100mAh battery that may have enough mileage to last a whole day.

LG Intuition Review

LG Intuition is the US version of the international LG Optimus Vu handset. However, it has some improvements of its own. Intuition is powered by 1.5GHz dual core processor with 1GB of RAM. It has 5 inch XGA IPS display featuring a resolution of 1024 x 768 pixels reinforced by Corning Gorilla Glass to be scratch resistant. It comes with 32GB of storage, and we hope there’s the option to expand the storage using microSD cards. Android OS v4.0.4 ICS is rocking the handset with a stripped user interface created by LG.

LG Intuition comes with 8P camera that can capture 1080p HD videos at 30 frames per second. 1.3MP front facing camera can be used for conference calling facilities. LG has introduced some camera enhancements and features including beauty shot, which soothes and brightens the skin tone, say cheese shot which captures a snap at your voice, and face tracking along with customizable shot modes and advanced image editor. The in-built Video Wiz can be used to edit videos and make your own movies right in your smartphone. LG Intuition seems to be a CDMA enabled smartphone with 4G LTE connectivity. Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n connectivity ensures continuous surfing in the internet while having the option to host a hotspot to share your super-fast internet connection. It also has NFC enabled, so we can expect some cool new features from LG Intuition. LG has included 2080mAh battery in Intuition which we think is somewhat meager although LG reports battery life up to 15 hours.

Conclusion

Samsung Galaxy Grand Duos vs LG Intuition

There are pros and cons in both of these devices. We are well aware that Samsung Galaxy Grand Duos is aimed at the lower end of the market. Yet, looking at LG Intuition and Samsung Galaxy Grand Duos, we fail to find major differences that would render the other useless. The display panel in LG is definitely better; but it’s rather unusual to have a 1024 x 768 pixels resolution in a mobile phone. On top of that, LG Intuition has a weird shape being wider than most of the high end smartphones. For these reasons; we think that the differentiating factor in this comparison would be the price. Then you can safely decide for which handset you need to divert your attention.
