Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 (P7100) vs Apple iPad 2

Galaxy Tab 10.1 and Apple iPad 2 are both competitive tablets in the market with high performance and speed. Both have put a lot of features in to the device to make their device the benchmark in the tablet market. Because hardware wise tablet market has reached saturation point, the real competition is going be the processor performance, applications (apps) and the differences between Apple iOS 4.3 and Android 3.0 Honeycomb. Interestingly Apple has used Samsung’s ARM processor in iPad 2 while Samsung has used Nvidia processor in Galaxy Tab 10.1, however both are dual-core processors. The native feature of Android for Gmail, Google Maps, redesigned YouTube player will be added advantage for Android devices comparing to Apple Pads. But the main advantage for iPad 2 is, most users of  iPad will be migrating to iPad 2. Apple Apps store also an added advantage for iPad 2, Apple announced during the iPad 2 release that it has over 65000 apps designed specifically for iPad.

iPad 2 has excellent multitasking feature with the support of dual core high performance 1 GHz Dual Core A5 application processor , 512 MB RAM and improved OS iOS 4.3.

iPad 2 is amazingly slim and lighter than its previous iPad, it’s just 8.8 mm thin and weight 1.3 pounds. The new A5 processor’s clock speed is twice as faster than A4 and 9 times better on graphics while the power consumption remains same.

iPad 2 has added some new features like HDMI capability – have to connect to HDTV via AV adapter that comes separately, camera with gyro and a new software PhotoBooth, 720p video camcorder, front facing camera with FaceTime for video conferencing, and introduced two applications – improved iMovie and GarageBand turning iPad as a small musical instrument. iPad 2 will have variants to support both 3G-UMTS/HSPA network and 3G-CDMA network and will be available as a Wi-Fi only model too.

iPad 2 is available in black and white colors and use the same battery as iPad and also priced same like iPad. Apple introduces a new bendable magnatic case for iPad 2, named as Smart Cover. iPad 2 will be available in the US market from March 11th and to others from March 25th.

Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 (P710)

Galaxy Tab 10.1 features a 10.1 inches WXGA TFT LCD display (1280×800), Nvidia dual-core Tegra 2 processor, and powered by Android 3.0 Honeycomb. The Honeycomb platform was exclusively designed for large screen devices such as tablets. Galaxy Tab 10.1 is made power efficient with low power DDR2 memory and 6860mAh battery. It’s also light and slim, only 599 grams and 10.9mm thickness.

In the context of multimedia, Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 packed with 8 megapixel rear and 2 MP front facing cameras and sporting a large screen with dual surround sound speakers and powered by high speed processor together with amazing tablet platform will give users a wonderful multimedia experience.

(1) Galaxy Tab 10.1 is powered with Android 3.0 Honeycomb where as Apple iPad 2 is powered with Apple Proprietary protocol, Apple iOS 4.3.

(2) Galaxy Tab 10.1 comes with NVIDIA Processor whereas iPad 2 comes with Apple A5 processor based on Samsung’s ARM Architecture.

(3) Apple has over 65,000 iPad specific applications while native feature of the Google Mobile Service is an advantage for Android powered Galaxy Tab.

    iPad 2 – Thought the camera was 720 not 1080 also thought it doesn’t support Adobe flash?
