Satan vs Devil
Satan and Devil are two words that are often used as words with the same meaning. Actually, they are two different words that convey different senses. The word ‘devil’ is used to convey the idea of someone who keeps on telling lies about any other person. On the other hand, the word ‘Satan’ simply means an enemy or one who opposes some other person. This is the basic difference between the two words, namely, Satan and devil.
It is interesting to note that both Satan and devil are the terms given initially to the chief enemy of God. In the beginning, the Satan was a perfect angel in the heaven with God. He became Satan later, since he began to think too much about himself and thought that he should be worshiped. It is important to know that worship belonged only to the God.
According to some, there is not much of a difference between Satan and devil. They are both one and the same, and are two dark entities spoken of differently at times. The devil is the primary cause of the entire evil taking place on the planet of Earth. He is also responsible for all the suffering on the planet. The Satan on the other hand, is spoken of as a dark entity that is responsible for giving birth to all evil temptations in man. These evil temptations pave the way for evil doings.
The Satan is described as a dark entity that should be kept at bay by all means. He should be rebuked too. The Bible gives the names as devil and Satan for the fallen angel. There are other names found in the Bible too, such as Lucifer and Beezelbul. According to some, devil is the title and Satan is the name of the fallen angel.
Satan and the devil are one in the same spiritual being.
“Satan” in English comes from the Hebrew word “השטן”.
“Devil” in English comes from the Greek word “διάβολος”
“השטן” translates from Hebrew to “διάβολος” therefore the Devil and Satan are one and the same.
The only difference is that the Hebrew word “השטן” translates in English to “Satan” and the Greek word “διάβολος” translates in English to “devil”
Can anyone tell me why the devil is a liar and a murderer from his beginning and yet we say that lucifer was the angel who was perfect before God and then was changed into satan! Would not these two entities be different if one was transformed from one thing into another thing and one was a liar and a murderer from his beginning would they yet be one in the same?
