Saturn vs Jupiter

Saturn and Jupiter are two planets in our solar system that have plenty of differences between them when it comes to their nature and characteristics. Both the planets are in the outer solar system. Saturn is the sixth planet from the sun whereas Jupiter is the fifth planet from the Sun. As a matter of fact, both Saturn and Jupiter are gas giants made of mainly hydrogen and helium and not a favorable atmosphere for life, unlike Earth. This is due to the fact that both are situated at a greater distance from the Sun. Other than this fact, there are more interesting facts about both of these planets.

More about Saturn

Saturn is the second largest planet in our solar system. As a matter of fact, the planet of Saturn is situated at a distance of about 1, 433, 000, 000 km from the Sun. The time taken to orbit the Sun in the case of Saturn is roughly 30 years (10, 759 days). The atmosphere of Saturn is about 96% hydrogen and 4% of helium. The rest is traces of other gases. Also, the atmospheric pressure on Saturn is very high. NASA suggest that the pressure at the core of Saturn is more than a 1000 times the pressure on Earth. This shows that Saturn does not possess the conditions wherein life is made possible. It is said to be very cool and dark in Saturn since its distance from the Sun is farther than the Earth.

Difference Between Saturn and Jupiter

In the astrological point of view, Saturn is said to play a great role in shaping the life and success of a human being. Saturn is said to influence the life of a human being both in good and bad ways.

More about Jupiter

On the other hand, Jupiter is the largest planet in our solar system. The planet of Jupiter is said to be situated at a distance of about 778, 500, 000 km from the Sun. On the other hand, the time taken for the planet of Jupiter to orbit the Sun is roughly 12 years (4, 331 days). Jupiter orbits about the Sun between Mars and Saturn. The atmosphere of Jupiter made of hydrogen and helium. About 90% is hydrogen while about 10% is helium. A very small fraction of other gases is available.

Saturn vs Jupiter

In the astrological point of view, Jupiter is said to play a great role in shaping the life and success of a human being. It is generally believed that Jupiter is said to improve the personality of a human being. It is believed by the astrologers that Jupiter is the storehouse of strength, and he is invoked upon to bestow strength in the minds of the human beings.

It is thus understood that Saturn takes more than twice the amount of time taken by the planet of Jupiter to orbit the sun.

• A day of Saturn is about 10 hours and 39 minutes. A day on Jupiter is about 9 hours and 56 minutes.

• Saturn has 62 moons and Jupiter has 67 confirmed moons. These numbers can change if more new moons are found.

• Both Saturn and Jupiter have adverse weather conditions. These also last longer than those on Earth. For example, the Voyager probes found a large hexagonal shaped storm larger than the whole of planet Earth, at the North Pole on Saturn. This was in 1980-81 period. Cassini-Huygens probe that came to Saturn in 2004 witnessed the same storm still progressing. When it comes to Jupiter, the Great Red Spot of Jupiter is an anticyclonic storm that is larger than Earth. It has been there since at least 1831.
