Difference Between School and Education

School vs Education

The basis for the difference between school and education is that school is a way to obtain education. However, since people do not look at school and education in this way, school and education have become two words that are often confused when it comes to their meanings and usage. Strictly speaking, these two words differ to some extent in terms of their senses and usage. School refers to a place of education. On the other hand, education refers to learning or teaching. This is the main difference between the two words. There are other differences too, which we will discuss in this article.

What is Education?

Education is the process of learning or the process of teaching. Though most of the time, when we say education, we are referring to the learning and teaching process one goes through in an institute, education can also be learning anything in life. For example, learning to ride a bike is also a form of education. You do not get that in an institute. You learn it from your parents or your friends.

Education is imparted in the schools. A person who educates the students in a school or in a college is called an educator. Man becomes perfect by education. He becomes refined by education. He has to attend to a school in some part of his life, preferably the early part of his life to get educated. Man can put his education to nice use later in his life.

On the other hand, education is the manifestation of perfection that is already in man. Education paves the way for culture too. An educated man becomes a cultured person too. On the other hand, an uneducated man becomes an uncultured man. This shows that education and culture go together. However, sometimes you may see well-educated men behaving in a very irrational and disgraceful manner making them uncultured. So, though generally people who have received an education are cultured, there can be exceptions too.

What is School?

School is a place that offers education to people. Schools are established in every country in the world so that children can have the knowledge necessary to live in this world. Usually, school is where a child gets his or her primary and secondary education. This is where the child learns a language in a formal manner; this is especially with regard to his or her mother tongue. Other than that, he or she gets to have knowledge in mathematics, sciences, history, and a number of other subjects that let him or her understand and be competent in the ways of the world. Once the school education is over, the child gets an opportunity to go to a college or a university, depending on his or her performance, to study more on the subject areas he or she likes.

Usually, school education begins when a child is six years old, and it last until a child is around 17 years. In some countries, this lasts until a child is 18 or 19 years old. The primary school contains the youngest children; that is children under 11. From there onwards is the secondary school.

If we consider the school system, we can see that every country has private schools and public schools. Public schools are run by the government, and all the schools share the same features as one governing body takes the decisions. Usually, all of these schools have the same curriculum. In private schools, a private board takes decisions regarding the schools, and students have to pay higher fees to study in such a school. Whatever the type of school, all schools are built with the objective of providing an educational opportunity for all the children.
