Seasonique vs Loseasonique
There are many pills and other contraceptive techniques in the market for birth control. Seasonique and Loseasonique are two such pills that women use as contraceptive method to avoid getting pregnant. There are differences in these two contraceptive pills that will be highlighted in this article by describing the features, pro and cons of both. This will enable a woman choose the right pill for contraception purposes.
Seasonique
Seasonique is a birth control pill that works by extending your menstrual cycle. This means that a woman who uses this pill regularly will have her periods once in three months instead of regular periods every month. It is a tablet that needs to be taken every day at the same time. Like any other birth control pills this also contains estrogen and progesterone hormones. Good thing about this pill is that the dosage is same for women of all ages and sizes. The side effects of Seasonique are similar to other contraceptive pills like bleeding, spotting between periods, breast tenderness, vomiting and headaches. If you experience any of these symptoms, it is better to consult your gynecologist.
Loseasonique
Loseasonique is another birth control pill that contains progesterone and estrogen hormones. It prevents ovulation by thickening the mucus in cervix and changing the lining of uterus. It also allows women to have menstruation every three months instead of periods every month. The side effects are same as in the case of Seasonique.
As far as differences between Seasonique and Loseasonique are concerned, Loseasonique is a low dose version of Seasonique and contains fewer hormones than Seasonique.
The generic name of Seasonique is Ethinyl estradiol and levonorgestrl and it is available in many brand names such as Jolessa, Quasense, Seasonale etc. Seasonique makes changes in the uterus making it hard for the sperm to reach the uterus and harder for a fertilized egg to attach to the uterus. If you are pregnant, or just had a baby, do not use this pill. It is also contraindicated in women who have had a stroke or blood clot or are suffering from circulation problems, breast or uterine cancer, vaginal bleeding, liver cancer, high blood pressure, migraine attacks. When starting on Seasonique, a woman may need back up of older birth control contraceptive till her body adapts to Seasonique. There are some drugs that do not go well with Seasonique and increase the risk of pregnancy. Tell your doctor about all the medication you are taking before starting on Seasonique.
You have to take a pill every day and if you miss a pill on a day, take two pills when you remember and then continue to take one every day for the rest of the pack. If you forget to take the pill for 2 days, take 2 pills for two days and then revert back to single pill for the rest of the pack.
As both Seasonique and Loseasonique contain same ingredients in different proportions, the precautions with Loseasonique are nearly the same as are with Seasonique. Some side effects of both these tablets are acne, enlargement or tenderness of breasts, change in appetite, dizziness, headache, nausea, nervousness, cramps, vaginal spotting, vomiting etc.
One danger that is common with both Seasonique and Loseasonique is that of smoking. Do not smoke when taking either Seasonique or Loseasonique as it increases the risk of cardio vascular problems.
