Difference Between Sell and Sale

Sell vs Sale

A salesperson comes to your home and shows you various FMCG products along with attractive offers and discounts. You are impressed and buy a few from him. This process of his trying to sell and you finally agreeing to his terms getting products and making him payment is known as a sale. The salesperson has made a sale having sold a few products to you. The act of selling is a verb called sell while the sale is a noun. There are many who fail to understand the difference between sell and sale. This article attempts to make clear their differences by highlighting their features, as well as usage.

Sell

Sell is a verb that describes the act of transferring the ownership of objects and products as the buyer gets to use the products in any manner he so desires. Even services get sold when you go to a mechanic to get your TV or DVD repaired, or when a lawyer sells his expertise or knowledge of law to save you from the clutches of .law in a court. Every time you go to a market or a mall, people sell things to you, as you have gone there with specific needs and made up your minds as to what items you need to buy. However, you sometimes buy things you do not need because of the art of salesmanship. There are many different ways of selling a product in exchange for money, and it all started with barter when there was no money around. People sold products they had or made to get products they needed in exchange. With the introduction of currency, products that are sold fetch money to the owner.

Sale

In the simplest terms, sale is the act of selling. Whenever a product is bought by a person he pays for it to the vendor, and sale has been conducted. It is correct for a car salesperson to say that he sells car and that the last sale he made was on last Monday. When you see the board ‘For Sale’ in front of a house or another property, you know that it is possible to buy the property.

Some other meanings have evolved with usage and time as you go to a sale of woolen clothes. A sale in this sense is assumed to be a place where customers expect products to be sold at prices less than their MRP. Again, where as MRP is maximum retail price, there is also a sale price, which is less than this MRP.

Once the process of handing-over a product to the buyer has been completed and the transaction deemed over, the sale has been completed. Sale is also number of products sold as when the owner comes and asks his salesperson as to how many sales has he completed.
