Sony PlayStaion Portable PSP3000 vs PSPgo

PSP3000 and PSPgo are popular handheld gaming consoles from Sony. Sony PlayStation is one of the most popular gaming consoles in the world along with Nintendo and Microsoft’s Xbox 360. Playstation was introduced in 2004, and since then there have been PS2, PS3, and several other versions of this handheld gaming console which have been lapped up by gaming freaks all over the world. In 2009, Sony launched PSP go, also called PSP-N1000, which is different from earlier PS versions, especially PSP3000. However, Sony did not intend it to be a successor of PSP3000 and is continuing to manufacture and sell PSP3000.

There are quite a few differences between the two models, and it is better to know them if you are planning to buy a Playstation to make an informed choice.

The major difference between PSP3000 and PSPgo is that PSPgo does not have a Universal media Disc (UMD) slot. Instead, it has a 16GB of internal flash memory for storing games, videos and pictures and other media. This memory is expandable up to 32GB through a M2 flash card. Those already having PSP3000 will have to wait till the downloadable version of older games is made available by the manufacturers. Another major difference is that the rechargeable battery of PSPgo is neither replaceable nor removable by the user which is a bit of a dampener for Playstation lovers.

PSPgo is considerably smaller and lighter than PSP3000 which makes it look stylish and sleek. The LCD screen of PSPgo is smaller at 3.8” compared to 4.3” of PSP3000. The resolution of the screen remains the same at 480X272pixels. Another notable difference is the sliding screen that goes up to reveal the menu and main controls.

For connectivity, PSPgo is capable of 802.11b/g Wi-Fi like PSP3000, but does not support commonly used USB cable connection. Instead it makes use of a connector that performs various connectivity tasks at the same instant. This is unlike previous versions where there were different slots for different functions such as video output, sound output, charging and headset. PSPgo also has Bluetooth connectivity.

The only pace to get games for PSPgo is Playstation store from where one can download them whereas one could get games from the market for earlier versions of Playstation.

Summary

• PSP3000 and PSPgo are popular handheld gaming consoles from Sony.

• PSPgo has Bluetooth connectivity unlike PSP3000.

• Rechargeable battery of PSPgo is neither removable nor replaceable by users.

• PSPgo is without UMD which is a bit of a disappointment for the users of earlier models of PlayStation. But it has a 16GB of internal flash memory
