Spam vs Junk

What is spam and what is junk? Have you ever been a victim of a huge quantity of unsolicited emails by people you do not know? When this happens, it poses a big problem as when you open your mail client and see your mail inbox having been bombarded by a large number of mails addressed to you. This is a menace that has taken gigantic proportions these days and is referred to as spam. Suppose you go to a departmental store and they ask your email ID for credit card application that you give innocently. They might start to write emails to you describing various offers that you do not need. You probably have been added to a broadcast only list server. Such mails cleverly provide a link to unsubscribe to the messages. When you click at the unsubscribe button, you are actually confirming your email ID that translates into receiving further unwanted messages.

Spammers usually send same emails to millions at the same time in the hope of a tiny number of readers responding to their offers. In contrast, junk is a one time attempt to get your attention. It is a type of advertisement through email that does not get repeated like spam. In offline terms, junk mail refers to the garbage you receive in your letterbox every week from credit card companies and similar other offers. This is the price you pay for mistakenly giving your mailing address in good faith to someone out of curiosity. Junk mail costs sender time and money in the form of writing and envelope and postage. On the other hand, it is you who have to pay for receiving spam as everyone shares to maintain the net.

In brief:
