What is Sweepstake (Competition)?

A sweepstake is a type of contest in which participants are not required to make any effort and send anything to showcase their skills. In a way, this is a promotional tool that is used by companies to attract people. Participants receive awards or prizes just by the virtue of being entrants in a sweepstake. It is all by chance and participants do not have to make any purchases or do something to increase their chances of winning. So unlike a lottery, you need not buy a ticket and wait for the outcome of a sweepstake. In countries other than US, sweepstakes are known as competition.
