Tight vs vs Loose
Tight and loose are terms that concerns the over-all fit of an object in relation to another object that it is trying to fit into or contain. It primary deals with articles of clothing, although the terms tight and loose can be used in many different ways.
Tight, by definition, means fixed or firmly fastened in place, stretched fully, or, the most common usage of the term, fitting close to the skin. It is used to describe anything that is fastened to something or worn. For example: a tight shirt or a tight grip. Tight in slang also mean very good or emotionally close. For example: ‘The dancers were tight!’ or ‘We’re tight.’
Loose is defined as not fastened or fixed in place or it commonly refers to the way the clothe fits a person. Loose is the description of the state of anything that was supposed to be fastened to something or the way the clothes fit. Examples are: ‘The bolts were loose.’ And ‘The pants I’m wearing are loose.’ In slang, loose means being relaxed and tranquil. It can also describe someone who has little sexual restraint, i.e. loose woman.
Difference between Tight and Loose
Tight and loose for all intents and purposes are opposites of each other. In clothing, tight and loose are opposites. In fixtures, tight and loose are used to describe opposite states. When you say something is loose, then it’s not tight. Simple as that. However, in slang terms, tight and loose are completely unrelated. When you say someone is ‘tight’, it means they’re cool. When you say someone is ‘loose’, it means they’re relaxed. Completely unrelated. Tight and loose are so different and opposite that interchanging them would change the whole idea completely.
So, it’s best to know how these two terms are used. They’re easy to understand anyway, all you have to remember is that they’re opposites.
1. Tight means fixed or firmly in place, fully stretched or fitting close to the skin. In slang, it means very good or emotionally close.
2. Loose means not fastened or fixed in place and not tight-fitting. In slang, it means relaxed or calm.
3. They are opposites.
