Trumpet vs French Horn
Difference between Trumpet and French horn goes beyond their physical look, although that is also a notable characteristic. For people who play in the band or in the orchestra, they might be two unique instruments whose difference is worth looking into.
Trumpet
Trumpet is the musical instrument that has the highest range of note in the brass family. Its main body is bent twice into an oblong shape and it usually has a loud sound. Since it has the soprano range amongst the brass family it is commonly used for both big bands and mariachi bands. Historically it is used for fanfares or battle calls due to its bright sound. It utilizes three main valves to change its pitch.
French Horn
French horn was initially used during hunting trips or for night watch to call due to its loud sound. Nobody was using it for indoor playing. Physically its tube is curled in a circular shape with a its mouthpiece in a funnel shaped. It has rotary valves, so when the player pushes down one valve it automatically closes or opens different valves. Most players find the French horn hard to play however it can be play almost any note with any fingering.
Difference between Trumpet and French Horn
Their sounds are distinctly different, one plays a bright tone and the other has a loud sound. However both are used in orchestra and bands which leads to the melodious harmony that it gives out. French horn is easier to buzz as compared with the trumpet but it is difficult to find the pitches, however if one started playing with this instrument, it is musically a good solid ground. Trumpets however have a “c” shaped mouthpiece which might be challenging for the new players to find its center. It also does not lock in the pitches automatically like the French horn. The harmonics of the trumpet are also not too close that it can cause cracking of the notes.
To the untrained ear the dissimilarity might be quite minimal but to the players the difference is important especially with their capacity to produce different notes. Regardless of their difference these musical instruments play good music either played in an orchestra or just individually.
