UNSW vs USYD
UNSW and USYD are two of the largest Universities in Australia and very popular centers of higher learning. Brief history
USYD, also called Sydney University is the oldest University in Australia having been established in 1850. With strength of around 50000 students, it is at present 2nd largest University in the country. It was established under the University of Sydney Act when the then existing Sydney College was sought to be expanded. The University received Royal Charter in 1858 from Queen Victoria granting recognition to graduates from the university at par with graduates from universities in Britain.
University of New South Wales, on the other hand is a famous university in the suburb of Sydney, New South Wales. It is a University especially known for research based activities and is a founder of Universities 21, which is an international coalition of research oriented Universities. UNSW was founded in 1949. Having strength of over 46000 students, it is the 3rd largest University in Australia.
Ranking
According to the 2010 QS World University Rankings, USYD was placed at 37th rank with 5th rank in Australian University Research Rankings 2010. On the other hand, UNSW ranked 46th worldwide on the 2010 QS World University Rankings, while it is ranked 4th in Australia.
Faculties
While UNSW has 9 faculties, USYD has 16 faculties, providing education in more subjects than UNSW.
Type
Both UNSW and USYD are public institutions. In terms of grants and endowments, USYD lags behind UNSW. While USYD received total endowments of $937 million in 2010, UNSW was ahead with total endowments of $1.08bn.
