Writing vs Reading

Writing and Reading are two words that are often confused when it comes to their application. In fact, both the words represent certain action. The word ‘writing’ represents the action of ‘creating script’ and the word ‘reading’ represents the action of ‘voicing out the script’. This is the main difference between the two words.

The word ‘reading’ involves ‘voice’. On the other hand, the word ‘writing’ involves ‘hand’. In other words, reading indicates speaking, whereas writing indicates ‘lettering’. This is the main difference between the two words.

Writing is all about lettering words in a paper or in a notebook. On the other hand, reading is all about ‘pronouncing the words written on a page or on a paper’. Sometimes, the word ‘reading’ is used in the sense of ‘interpretation’ as in the sentences,

1. The reading session ended.

2. The reading was highly appreciated.

In both the sentences, the word ‘reading’ is used in the sense of ‘interpretation’. Reading sessions usually take place in poetry. On the other hand observe the two sentences given below.

1. Writing was invented centuries ago.

2. The art of writing developed in the course of time.

In both the sentences, the word ‘writing’ is used as a noun, and it is used in the sense of ‘inscription’ or ‘putting down letters on a piece of paper’. It is important to know that both the words, namely writing and reading are primarily used as nouns. Their verbal forms are ‘write’ and ‘read’ respectively. The words that are formed out of ‘writing’ and ‘reading’ include ‘writer’ and ‘reader’ respectively. These are the differences between the two words, namely, writing and reading.
