Yoga vs Exercise
Yoga and Exercise are two words that are often confused as one and the same. There is a wealth of difference between the two words. Yoga is a school of philosophy whereas exercise pertains to the development of muscles of the human body by training them properly.
The performance of Yoga postures does not contribute to the development of muscles whereas exercising the body in the gym contributes a lot to the toning of the muscles. Yoga aims at the attainment of mental purity. It is all about the regulation of breathing technique called Pranayama and Asanas or postures.
There are a number of Yoga asanas or postures that aim at improving concentration and mental purity. Yoga is a philosophical approach to life. On the other hand exercise aims at building up physique and toning the muscles. There are various forms of physical exercise such as lifting weights, aerobic exercise and the like. Running, jogging, swimming and jumping are aerobic forms of exercise.
Weightlifting contributes to the development of muscles. It gives a sound shape to the body. The practice of Yoga on the other hand improves some of the vital functions in the body such as blood circulation and breathing. Yoga is said to bestow a lot of medical benefits on the practitioner. It cures problems related to blood pressure and digestion. Many asanas are said to have medicinal benefits. Asanas aim at the longevity of life.
Exercise aims at building up stamina. On the other hand Yoga needs regular practice to attain perfection. You must have a guru or a teacher to impart the knowledge of Yoga to you. On the other hand you need not learn exercise from a trainer. You can go to the gym and do the exercises yourself. These are some of the differences between Yoga and exercise.
