Zinc white and titanium white are both variations of white paint colours, and these two are the most widely used types of white pigments. These colours are mostly used by painters and artists not just in oil paintings but also in other mediums.

What is Zinc White?

Zinc white is derived from zinc oxide, a compound which is inorganic. It appears white in color and is not soluble in water thus it has been known as a component in paints. Among all the white paint that the artist use, this one is the most translucent. One can call it, the shiny white. However, when used in mixtures, this usually produces cold colours.

What is Titanium White?

Among all the variations of the artist’s white paints, the titanium white is referred to as the opaque one. This is also the most common white pigment used by painters because its refractive index is pretty high. This is usually called as the whitest white, or the purest white. However, when mixed with other colours, the result usually is very pale due to its whiteness.

What is the difference between Zinc White and Titanium White?

Learning how zinc white and titanium white differ from each other is important especially for artists. Their choice of white pigments may affect on how the viewers see their works as a whole. If an artist prefers a shiny effect, he can choose to use the zinc white. On the other hand, if he or she desires a very opaque white, titanium white is the paint to use.In mixtures, the zinc white produces cold colours while titanium white usually produces pale colours.
