Difference Between Airtel live and GPRS

Airtel live vs GPRS

Airtel is one of the largest mobile service providers in India. As most of the mobile handsets are internet based these days and people surf the net on their mobiles, Airtel too allows data transfer through two services which are known as Airtel Live and Airtel GPRS. Airtel Live is for limited internet browsing experience and opens only a few WAP enabled sites that are text based. These sites can be opened even with low technology handsets. GPRS is also known as General Packet Radio Service and allows for fast data transfer on high tech mobile handsets. Internet access through sets such as iPhone, Android, Blackberry, Nokia N series and other such mobiles is easy and fast.

Airtel LIVE

As part of GPRS or data transfer through internet, Airtel provides three types of GPRS services. These are as follows

1. Airtel Live

2. Airtel NOP

3. Airtel Mobile Office

Airtel Live is the so called free GPRS service from Airtel. There are no monthly rentals for this service. But you cannot expect to browse any site on the net using Airtel Live and they provide you access to only a few text based sites. You also get access to the Airtel portal from where you can download wall papers, ring tones games and pictures. These items are not free unless specified. As anyone can get Airtel Live activated easily, people start to download games and wallpapers only to realize that their balance has gone down or they are getting huge bills if they have a post paid connection.

Besides downloading, there are other services on Airtel Live which customers can make use of, such as messaging, chatting, blogging and access to mail anytime. This service can also be activated by sending a message to the company.

Airtel GPRS

As told earlier, GPRS is data transfer through internet and Airtel Live is also a part of GPRS. So here we will concentrate on the main internet service, and not just Airtel Live. Net on phone or NOP, as Airtel call it, is available on a rental of just Rs 5 per day to go to any site on the net. If you are a post paid customer, you will be charged Rs 99 every month for using GPRS on Airtel. You are not charged for browsing any site and you can download a few games and freebies if you get them from a free site. The speed of browsing is also fast unlike other internet service providers.

Another of the famous GPRS service by Airtel is Airtel Mobile Office. It is similar to NOP, but customers have to pat Rs 15 per day for browsing the net. This plan allows the use of phone as a modem which is very attractive for those who need to be online ASAP.

Difference between Airtel Live and Airtel GPRS

Though both Airtel Live and GPRS are net based services, and Airtel Live is in the real sense only a part of the bigger GPRS service, there are distinct differences between the two.

♦ Airtel Live is free whereas GPRS is not free

♦ Airtel Live is a portal of the company and allows browsing only a few more sites that are text based only whereas GPRS enables a customer to go to any site of his liking and download anything he wishes

♦ GPRS plan enables a customer to use his phone as a modem to connect to a PC and go to net where as this is not possible in Airtel Live

♦ If you have no special requirement, there is no need to get Airtel GPRS activated as it is costly. You can easily do it with Airtel Live.
