Difference Between Babysitters and Nannies

Babysitters vs Nannies

Babysitters and nannies generally do one thing: take care of your children for you. However, one entails more duty and responsibility than the other. Also, one is more of a permanent position. Which is which? Continue reading to know the difference between babysitters and nannies.

Babysitter

Working as a babysitter is basically an odd job. You only get a babysitter if you are going out and there’s no one to take care of the kids. Being a babysitter means you get to temporarily take care of someone’s children. This job focuses more on child safety more than anything else. You only get a babysitter as you need them, and that is why it’s an odd job.

Nanny

Being a nanny, on the other hand, is a more of a permanent position. You will pretty much entrust your child to the care of this nanny for the reason that you don’t have enough time to take care of them yourself. Nannies are basically a servant of the family they work for. Although being a nanny is not a fulltime thing, some nannies are given a separate room in a house so that they can be available for the children’s needs all the time.

Difference between Babysitters and Nannies

Being a nanny is more stable compared to being a babysitter. Simply, a nanny is a fulltime position while a babysitter is basically only hired whenever you need them. Also, being a nanny will require more qualifications compared to being a babysitter. Actually, almost anybody can be a babysitter but not just anyone can be a nanny. Another thing that sets them apart is the pay. A nanny is paid a monthly salary while a babysitter is paid per hour. Also, a babysitter only works for a specific number of hours while a nanny generally has no set schedule.

Regardless of the differences between the two, however, being a nanny or a babysitter is all about taking care of the children. It is important to be sure of their well-being before you decide to hire either one.

In brief:

• A babysitter is an odd job with an hourly rate. It is usually only required whenever the parents have to go out without the kids. This primarily concerns child safety.

• A nanny is a permanent position within a household that has a monthly salary. Usually, nannies are given a separate room in a house so that they can take care of the children even at unconventional hours.
