Difference Between Basketball and Netball

Basketball vs Netball

Basketball and netball are two of the most loved ball sports nowadays. Both sports can be played in the same court as these two sports are related but beyond that these two have different rules and game types, aside from the fact that usually netballs are played by women.

BasketBall

Basketball is a ball game played by two teams, usually men, with 5 members each. The goal is to shoot the ball through a hoop in order to score. Field goal is scored as two points when the “shooter” is near the hoop while if outside the 3-point line he scores a three points for his team. The team with the highest score wins the game.

Netball

Netball is a ball game that has almost the same features as that of a basketball. Mostly, players for this sport are women. A netball court is divided into three parts with each section occupied by a member of opposing teams. There are 7 members for each team and each one is assigned a specific position such as Goal Keeper, Wing Defence, Wing Attack, Goal Defence, Center, Goal Attack and Goal Shooter.

What is the difference between Basketball and Netball

The main difference between these sports is that in basketball a player can move around the court while in netball a player needs to stay within an area depending on the position. Basketball is a contact sports while netball is a non-contact sports. This is because in netball, opposing player should be about 0.9 meters from the player who has the ball which is not the case in basketball. A basketball player must dribble the ball in order to move around otherwise a violation may be called against him while in netball a player should not dribble instead should pass it to next player immediately.
