Key Difference – Chew vs Dip vs Snuff

There are millions of tobacco lovers around the world who do not smoke cigarettes or cigars but are still able to get the kick from tobacco just like smokers. These people indulge in what is called smokeless tobacco. They keep the tobacco in their mouth and keep drawing in the juices of tobacco, to get the kick of tobacco. Chew and dip and snuff are the names given to this smokeless tobacco that is supposed to be harmless as you do not swallow the tobacco. However, scientists have proved that smokeless tobacco is not harmless and causes oral cancer and other diseases. Through this article let us gain a clearer understanding of Chew, Dip and Snuff.

What is Chew?

Chew is another name of dip or dipping tobacco, but the difference lies in the fact that chew consists of loose leaves of tobacco that have been sweetened. One packs a wad of these leaves inside his mouth and holds it there for hours at stretch, drawing all the nicotine of the tobacco. Usually, the user spits the juices of the tobacco but hardened chewers swallow even the juices of tobacco.

What is Dip?

Dip, or dipping tobacco is a moist tobacco that comes in a tin, and the user places a little bit of this tobacco in between his lower lip and gum. Dip comes in two distinct cuts called long cut and fine cut. Fine cut is smaller and has to be carefully placed inside one’s mouth in such a manner that it does not fall apart. For beginners, it is better to start with the long cut that stays in place without any special effort.

What is Snuff?

Snuff is tobacco that is in the form of finely ground powder and one has to snort it through his nostrils to get the kick. Snuff is also moist but finely ground tobacco that is also called Naswar in India, Pakistan, Iran, Afghanistan, and some CIS countries where people use this smokeless tobacco as an alternative to smoking.
