Creative Suite (CS) is a collection of applications developed by Adobe Systems that are used for graphics designing, web development and video editing. This collection is made up of applications such as Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Acrobat and Adobe InDesign, etc. The latest version of this suite is Creative Suite 5.5 (CS5.5) and it was released in April, 2011. Creative Suite 5 (CS5) was the earlier CS version and it was released in April, 2010. CS uses technologies like PDF, Flash and Photoshop.

What is CS5?

CS5 was the version that preceded the current version of CS developed by Adobe Systems. It was released in April, 2010 following the version CS4. CS5 includes 15 Adobe System’s products including Photoshop CS5, Illustrator CS5, InDesign CS5, Acrobat 9 Pro, Flash Catalyst CS5, Flash Professional CS5, Flash Builder 4, Dreamweaver CS5, etc.  One of the new features included in CS5 is the native support provided by Photoshop, Premiere Pro, and After Effects for 64 bit architectures. Furthermore, Adobe Mercury provides speed up rendering in Premier Pro by including Nvidia GPU acceleration. Support of Dreamweaver for PHP-based CMS like Drupal, WordPress, etc is another new feature. These are just some of the new features included in CS5.

What is CS5.5?

CS5.5 is the newest version of CS. It was released in April, 2011. Most of the products in the CS 5.5 have been improved in functionality by adding new features and by updating the technologies. Even though Photoshop remains as CS5 in the new CS5.5 version, there are some minor upgrades (and called as Photoshop CS5.1). These updates provide the ability to the devices such as iPad, Android devices, etc. to communicate with Photoshop CS 5 desktop version. Furthermore, InDesign 5.5 contains new features like Folio Producer tools that allow to create digital documents for tablets, the ability for accessing the Adobe Digital Publishing Suite, enhancements in PDF accessibility, etc. In addition, CS5.5 contains Dreamweaver 5.5 that includes new features like integration of jQuery Mobile, integration of PhoneGap, W3C validation, support by FTPS and FTPES, etc. CS 5.5 also contains Flash Professional CS 5.5 that expands its support for platforms and devices, incremental compilation, etc. Furthermore, CS 5.5 contains Flash Catalyst CS5.5, Flash Builder 4.5, Premiere Pro CS5.5, After Effects CS5.5, Audition CS5.5, Acrobat X Pro that also includes lot of new features.

What is the difference between CS5 and CS5.5?

CS 5.5 is the newest version of Adobe CS, where as CS5 is the earlier version. CS 5.5 contains updated versions of most of the products when compared with CS5. There are 11 updated applications and they are InDesign, Dreamweaver, Premiere Pro, After Effects, Flash Pro, Flash Catalyst, Flash Builder, Audition, Acrobat X Pro, Media Encoder and Device Central. Applications that are not updated between versions 5 and 5.5 are Photoshop, Illustrator, Fireworks and Contribute. Even though Photoshop remains as CS5 there are some updates to the Software Development Kit (SDK). Also, Adobe claims an overall performance improvement in CS5.5 when compared with CS5.
