Evaluation vs Conclusion
If you have undergone a laboratory test for the diagnosis of a disease, you are handed over a report which often contains both the conclusion as well as an evaluation. Conclusion is the ending part of an essay or a speech. Evaluation is also at the end of a paper or essay making it confusing for readers to appreciate the differences between the two. This article attempts to highlight the differences between evaluation and conclusion so as to enable a writer to write these pieces correctly.
Evaluation
There are many definitions of evaluation, but one that comes closest to its meaning and describes it well in a concise manner is one that says that it is a systematic assessment of the worth or the merit of an object. The basic purpose of evaluation is to judge and have an opinion about something. What went wrong or what went well is a part of an evaluation. If there is something wrong, evaluation tries to highlight the causes and what could have been done to improve the condition. Evaluation, when done by an expert or an authority on a subject has great value and significance for others as it provides the necessary feedback about an object that could be useful to others. Evaluation has a judgmental part in it and serves the purpose of an appraisal of a scheme, welfare program, a theory, a policy, a medication, a treatment procedure, or the performance of an individual or a government. It is like enumerating the good and bad points of a subject and talking about its reliability and efficiency.
Conclusion
Conclusion is always at the end of a document that tells what has been found out. It is wrapping up an essay or speech highlighting the main points once again in short. Conclusion is often the most difficult part in a live performance where the artist has to reach a crescendo to make the performance memorable so that he leaves the audience spellbound and mesmerized. Often it is the conclusion that is remembered by the audience. Conclusion in a piece of literature or prose is like gathering all the pieces together one last time and describing them all in an attractive manner.
Often, writing a conclusion is the hardest for some writers as they find they have nothing left to say after writing the paper. However, considering it is the conclusion that remains in the memories of the readers, a writer does well to keep the best for the end to have the maximum effect on the readers.
