As popular tourist destinations, choosing between the two, Hawaii and Caribbean, is difficult for anyone without knowing the difference between them. Hawaii and Caribbean are two places comprising of islands. In other words, they are groups of islands, or island chains that show differences between them when it comes to places of interest, climate, transportation, population, economy, and the like. As both are islands, the sea that surrounds the islands and white sandy beaches, attract tourists to these locations from all around the world. Hawaii is also known as The Aloha State, Paradise, and the Islands of Aloha. Caribbean, though it does not have such names as Hawaii, is also a very well-known region in the world.

Hawaii is the only state in the United States of America made up of islands. It is in the Pacific Ocean and occupies most of an archipelago. It is exactly located in the south west of the United States, north east of Australia and southeast of Japan. Hawaii occupies a total area of 10, 931 square miles. It has a population of about 1, 404, 054 (est. 2013). Hawaiian language is primarily spoken in the Hawaii islands other than English.

The tallest mountain in Hawaii is Mauna Kea and it is believed to be taller than Mount Everest if measured from the base in the Ocean. Moreover, some of the important and well known islands in Hawaii include Maui, Kahoolawe, Oahu, Kauai, Niihau, and Lanai. As far as climate is concerned most of the Hawaiian region has only two seasons; namely, the dry season from May to October and the wet season from October to April. Commercial airlines provide the inter-island travel in Hawaii. These airlines include Hawaiian Airlines and Mokulele Airlines. There are some large airports at Honolulu, Kona, Hilo, and Kahului.

Hawaii is the only US state with a tropical rain forest. Iolani Palace in Hawaii is the only royal palace in US. There are 132 islands in the Hawaiian island chain. Hawaii is also the only US state that grows coffee, cacao and vanilla beans. Haleakalā, the world’s largest dormant volcano, is in Hawaii.

Caribbean, on the other hand, is a group of islands located in the east of Central America, south east of Gulf of Mexico and North America and the north of South America. Caribbean is a group of more than 7000 islands and islets. An islet is a small island. West Indies contains some parts of these Caribbean islands. Furthermore, Caribbean occupies a total area of about 92, 541 square miles. It has a population of about 39, 169, 962 (est. 2009). As a whole, there are several languages spoken in the Caribbean area. They are Spanish, French, English, Dutch, Haitian Creole, and Papiamento. As West Indies contains a large area of the Caribbean, we can have a look at the languages spoken there as well. English is the main language spoken in the West Indies. Languages like French and Hindi are also spoken in some parts of the West Indies.

The climate of the Caribbean is also mainly divided into two as dry season and wet season. The last six months of the year is considered as wetter than the first half of the year. Caribbean is known to hold a great number of beaches and is a great tourist spot. Travelling among Caribbean islands is done by both planes as well as ferries.

The capital city of Hawaii is Honolulu and it is also the largest city in the state. On the other hand, there are several large cities in the Caribbean. They include Santo Domingo, Havana, Kingston, San Juan, Holguin, Santiago de Cuba, and Port-au-Prince to mention a few. Some of the well known countries in the Caribbean include Jamaica, Trinidad and Tobago, Antigua, and Barbados.

You will be interested to know that only about 2% of the Caribbean Islands is actually inhabited. Most of the inhabitants of Caribbean islands are actually descendants of African slaves, who were brought there to work in sugar plantations. The shortest runway on earth, not more than 1, 300 feet long, can be found at the Caribbean island of Saba.
