HTC Droid Incredible 2 vs HTC Thunderbolt – Full Specs Compared

HTC Droid Incredible 2 and HTC Thunderbolt are two amazing smartphones from HTC available for Verizon Mobile. While Droid Incredible 2 is a 3G phone Thunderbolt is the first phone to take the advantage of Verizon’s 4G-LTE speed. Both the phones have used the same processor and same OS, Android 2.2 with over the air upgradeability. The display size is different; Thunderbolt has got the larger 4.3″ display while it’s 4″ in Droid but both are of same type. HTC Droid Incredible 2 has the global roaming feature in addition. The negative side of HTC Thunderbolt and HTC Droid Incredibe 2 are their short battery life.

HTC Droid Incredible 2

HTC Droid Incredible 2 features a faster next generation 1GHz Qualcomm MSM8655 processor (the same processor used in HTC ThunderBolt), 4 inch WVGA (800 x 480 pixels) super LCD display, 768MB RAM, 8MP rear camera with dual Xenon flash that can capture HD video at 720p, 1.3MP camera at the front for video chat. The super LCD display is very clear and produce vivid colors, better than the display of the previous Incredible. On the design side, it is similar to HTC Incredible S, there is no physical button in the front. The on screen button rotates when you change to landscape.

For connectivity it has Wi-Fi 802.11b/g/n, Bluetooth v2.1 with FTP/OPP for file transfer and a microUSB port available on the left side edge. The other features include surround sound environment via SRS WOW HD, Bluetooth A2DP for wireless stereo headset,DLNA, GPS with preloaded maps and unified inbox for all email accounts.

The phone runs Android 2.2.1 with HTC Sense, but the operating system is upgradeable to Android 2.3 (Gingerbread). HTC Sense offers 7 homescreens that can be customized. It’s a world phone with the capability to roam globally, so you can carry this phone when you go outside US.

HTC Droid Incredible 2 is another addition to Verizon’s Droid series and it was released in April 2011 with a price tag of $ 199 with a new 2 year contract and data plan for web based services.

HTC Thunderbolt

The HTC Thunderbolt with 4.3 inches WVGA display is the first phone to enjoy the super fast 4G speed offered by Verizon’s 4G LTE network and to deliver the full 4G experience to users it was built with a next generation 1GHz Qualcomm MSM 8655 processor in tandem with MDM9600 modem for multimode network support and 768 MB RAM. This handset has 8megapixel camera with dual LED flash, 720p HD video recording in the rear and 1.3megapixel camera in the front for video calling. The phone runs on Android 2.2 (upgradeable to 2.3) with HTC Sense 2 that offers fast boot and enhanced personalization option and new camera effects. It also has an internal storage capacity of 8 GB and preinstalled 32 GB microSD and built in kickstand for handsfree media viewing.

Qualcomm claims that they are the industry first to release LTE/3G Multimode Chipsets. 3G multimode is required for ubiquitous data coverage and voice services.

With 4.3 inches WVGA display, high speed processor, 4G speed, Dolby Surround Sound, DLNA streaming and kickstand for hands free viewing HTC Thunderbolt will give you the pleasure of live music environment.

HTC Thunderbolt has integrated Skype mobile with video calling, you can make video call easily like a standard voice call. And with the mobile hotspot capability you can share your 4G connection with 8 other Wi-Fi enabled devices. The featured applications on Thunderbolt include 4G LTE optimized apps such as EAs Rock Band, Gamelofts Lets Golf! 2, Tunewiki and Bitbop.

Verizon 4G-LTE

Thunderbolt is compatible with 4G-LTE 700 and 3G- CDMA EvDO Rev.A. Verizon promises 5 to 12 Mbps download speeds and upload speeds of 2 to 5 Mbps in 4G Mobile Broadband coverage area. It also support global roaming.

Verizon is offering the Thunderbolt for $250 on a new two year contract. Customers have to subscribe to a Verizon Wireless Nationwide Talk plan and a 4G LTE data package. Nationwide Talk plans starts from $39.99 monthly access and an unlimited 4G LTE data plan begins at $29.99 monthly access. Mobile hotspot is included through May 15 for no additional charge.

HTC Sense

The latest HTC Sense, which HTC calls as the social intelligence gives a unique experience to users with its many small but intelligent applications. The improved HTC Sense enables fast boot and has added many new multimedia features. HTC Sense has enhanced camera application with many camera features like full screen viewfinder, touch focus, onscreen access to camera adjustments and effects. The other features include HTC locations with on-demand mapping (service depend on the carrier), integrated e-reader that support text search from Wikipedia, Google, Youtube or dictionary. Browsing is made enjoyable with features like magnifier, quick look up to look for a word, Wikipedia search, Google search, YouTube search, Google translate and Google dictionary. You can add a new window for browsing or move from one to another windows by zooming in and out. It also offers a good music player, which is better than the standard Android music player. There are many other features with htc sense that give a beautiful experience to users.

HTC Sense also has a new online service htcsense.com, strangely the service is not available for HTC Thunderbolt. You can use the service to locate your missing phone and make it ring even if its in silent mode and remotely wipe data, if required.
