HTC Evo Shift 4G and HTC Evo 4G are sibilings from HTC Evo family and having many similarities. Both Evo Shift 4G and Evo 4G are Android 4G phones that run Android 2.2 with HTC sense. Even both work on the same network, they are configured for 3G CDMA EvDo and 4G WiMax (in US the Carrier is Sprint). Both have LCD screens with the same resolution and they are pretty good, text and images are clear in the display. Both the phones are also capable of functioning as mobile hotspot that can connect up to 8 devices and tethering is possible in both. The battery also same in both, but the battery life is not adequate to work with 4G network. Both batteries drain down faster with 4G network. As like similarities there are many differences too between Evo Shift 4G and Evo 4G. The main differences between HTC Evo Shift 4G and Evo 4G are the keyboard, front facing camera for video call, processor – Clock speed, storage capacity and display size.
Evo Shift 4G has got a good slideout keyboard with trackpad whereas, Evo 4G has the onscreen virtual keyboard only. The other noticeable difference is the display size, Evo shift has a comfortable 3.6 inches and Evo 4G has a larger 4 inch display. The clock speed of the processor in Evo Shift 4G is 800 MHz and that in Evo 4G is 1 GHz, the RAM size is same in both. The camera too is more powerful in Evo 4G, it has a 8MP camera with dual LED flash while that in Evo Shift 4G is 5 MP with lone LED flash. However the video recording capability is same in both, it is 720p@30fps. Evo 4G score more on storage also, Evo 4G has 1 GB ROM and 8 GB removable microSD card while Evo Shift 4G has only 2GB removable microSD card. Memory can be upgraded up to 32 GB with micro SD card in both. Additional features in Evo 4G are front facing camera, miniHDMI port and kickstand.

Evo Shift 4G comes with a capacitive multi-touch screen that is 3.6” WVGA 262K color TFT LCD display. At a resolution of 800×480 pixels resolution, the text appears to be very sharp. Though, the display is small compared to other recent phones it has a slider QWERTY keyboard. The keyboard is designed well and it also has a trackpad in one corner for easy navigation. It’s built with the Qualcomm MSM7630, 800 MHz processor, Sequans SQN 1210 processor is used for 4G WiMAX.
The dimensions of the phone are 4.61 x 2.32 x 0.59 inches, and weighs 5.85 ounces, this extra thickness and weight may be due to the sliding keypad. The phone runs on Android 2.2 with HTC Sense for UI. Evo Shift 4G has a 5 megapixels camera that has an LED flash and CMOS sensor. It has 720p HD camcorder and the touch screen supports pinch to zoom. The phone is capable of running media rich websites and has access to Android market, which has thousands of apps. It supports visual voicemail, has inbuilt GPS navigation, uses Stereo Bluetooth wireless technology and can act as a mobile hotspot to connect 8 Wi-Fi enabled devices. Amazon Kindle app is pre installed in the device.
HTC Evo 4G
Evo 4G is the first 4G phone that was introduced in 2010 Summer in US. It has a big screen, 4.3 inch LCD screen that support WVGA (800 x 480 pixels resolution), 8 megapixel camera with dual LED and powered by 1 GHZ Qualcomm Snapdragon processor with 512 MB RAM. Browsing is a good experience at 4G speed in a large display with pinch to zoom facility. The touch screen is also sensitive and fast. Evo 4G has a 1.3 megapixel front-facing camera for video calling. The other features include mobile hotspot – connect up to 8 devices at 4G speed, 1 GB internal memory with 8GB microSD card, the memory can be expanded up to 32 GB, HDMI out and YouTube HQ video player. Battery life is not very attractive in this device, it is rated as 6 hrs but with 4G it drains fast.
HTC Evo 4G is little bulky and large, when you hold it, it’s handful. It weighs 6 oz, and the dimensions are 4.8 x 2.6 x 0.5 inches.

By registering with the htcsense. com online service, you can trace your lost phone by sending a command to make the phone sound an alert, it will sound even while on silent mode, you can locate it in the map too. Also if you want you can remotely wipe all data in the handset with a single command. HTC sense also support multiple windows for browsing. The other HTC Sense features include, flip your phone to silence, preview your drive with local map and compass and rings louder when its inside a bag or hidden.
Both HTC EVO Shift 4G and Evo 4G support 3G-CDMA network and 4G-WiMax network. 4G-WiMax offers a download speed of 10+ Mbps while 3G-CDMA offers 3.1 Mbps. On upload, 4G-WiMax delivers 4 Mbps and 3G-CDMA gives 1.8 Mbps.
