Kerala is a state located on the south-western region of India. It occupies a total area of 15,005 square miles. Goa is situated in South West India. It is in fact the smallest Indian state and the fourth smallest state in terms of population. It occupies a total area of about 1429 square miles.

Kerala is one of the oldest cultural centers in India in the sense that it has been a major spice trade center from as early as 3000 BC. Goa’s history on the contrary can be traced back to 3rd century BC. In fact it can be said that Goa formed a part of the Mauryan Empire when it was ruled by the emperor of Magadha, Ashoka.

Hinduism flourished in the state of Kerala although Christians too form a major part of the land in terms of population. It is interesting to note that Buddhist monks laid the foundation of Buddhism in Goa.

Goa is characterized by a hot and humid climate for most part of the year, whereas Kerala is a state characterized by a wet and maritime tropical climate. It is interesting to note that the state of Kerala receives rain at least for 130 days in a year. This is the reason why Kerala is famous for flora and fauna. It is known for its fertile lands. Goa on the other hand is known for its wild life. The state has some of the country’s finest wild life sanctuaries. These sanctuaries boast 48 kinds of animals and more than 275 species of birds.

Rice is the main crop in Goa. Some of the cash crops include coconut, areca nuts, cashew nuts, sugarcane and fruits like bananas and mangos. Kerala on the other hand has the highest human development index. Agriculture and fishing industries flourish in Kerala. Cereal crops grow on the fertile lands of the state.

Economy of Kerala is triggered by service sector including tourism, public administration and banking. Tourism is the largest industry in the state of Kerala. Goa is considered the richest Indian state in terms of GDP per capita. Goa too strives mainly on tourism. It is interesting to note that Goa has two main tourist seasons, namely, winter and summer. It is true that foreign tourists visit Goa during winter.

Kerala attracts tourists for different reasons altogether. Kerala is the seat of culture and tradition. Tourists throng places in Kerala to enjoy the art forms of Kathakali, Koodiyattam and Mohini Attam. These are various dance forms that originated in the land of Kerala. Goa’s main attractions are its beaches and the Goa carnival. Kerala’s main attractions include temples and beaches too. Some of the important temples are located at Trissur and Sabarimala in Kerala.
