Although the literacy rate in Tamilnadu is not as high as in Kerala, the state of Tamilnadu enjoys the highest number of business enterprises in India. In fact it has 10.56% of the total business enterprises in the whole of India.

Kerala is characterized by the equatorial tropic climate, whereas Tamilnadu is characterized by dry sub-humid climatic conditions. The state of Tamilnadu receives annual rainfall of about 37.2 inches. Kerala is one of the wettest places in India in the sense that it receives rain for about 130 days in a year.

Some of the main points of tourist interest in Kerala include Kovalam, Munnar, Thiruvananthapuram, Parumala, Trissur, Sabarimala, Kannur and Thekkadi. Tamilnadu boasts as many as 32 districts. Tamilnadu is home to several points of tourist interest such as Botanical Gardens in Ooty, Tiruvalluvar Statue in Kanyakumari, Papanasam, Kourtalam water falls, Marina Beach in Chennai and the Meenakshi Temple in Madurai.

Tamilnadu houses several temples that were built in the typical Dravidian style. These temples include the Parthasarathy Temple in Chennai, the Kapaleeswarar Temple in Chennai, the Big Temple in Thanjavur and the Kamakshi Temple in Kanchipuram. Basilica of Our Lady of Good Health at Velankanni is a famous Christian pilgrimage center.

Kerala is a state known for various forms of arts such as Kathakali dance form and Koodiyattam dance form. It can be said that the cultural base of Kerala is formed by a mixture of both the Tamilakam from Tamilnadu and coastal Karnataka. The state is home to all festivities during the festival of Onam. Taminadu celebrates festivities during Pongal in the month of January.

Economy of Tamilnadu is boosted by several industries such as fireworks and match industries, textile and automobile industries. IT industry is beginning to flower in Chennai the capital of Tamilnadu. There are several tech parks in the city that are contributing to the economic growth of Tamilnadu in general and India in particular. Kerala is dependent on its tourism for its economic progress. This is due to the fact that tourism is the flourishing industry in Kerala.
