LG Revoltion vs iPhone 4 – Full Specs Compared

LG Revolution is the third 4G phone added to Verizon’s 4G-LTE Network. Revolution is the first 4G phone by LG that was announced way back in January at the CES 2011 in Las Vegas. The Revolution sports a 4.3″ TFT display, 1GHz Snapdragon processor , 16GB internal memory, 5 MP camera and powered by Android 2.2 (Froyo) with LG’s own UI. It carries a price tag of $250 with a new 2 year contract. iPhone 4 was introduced on Verizon’s 3G-CDMA network in January 2011. Though it lags behind in network compatibility compared to the latest phones that support 4G, it’s popularity has not diminished due to its very bright and crispy Retina diplay, the clean and simple OS that is fluid on the device, long battery life and the largest app store which has now close to 500,000 apps. It carries a price tag of $200 (16GB)/ $300 (32GB) with a new 2 year contract. If we compare the 16GB iPhone 4 with Revolution that also has a 16GB memory, for the additional $50 you pay what Revolution offers is not a lot but you can be happy that you have a phone capable of running on next generation network; it offers a bigger display but it’s not super AMOLED plus or Super LCD, faster Bluetooth connectivity supported by v3.0 and the 4G network compatibility. While iPhone 4 is a 3G device LG’s Revolution is a 4G phone. Verizon claims that its 4G network is 10 times faster than its 3G network. However currently LTE can offer a download speed of 5 – 12 Mbps. Revolution can share its 4G connectivity with 8 other Wi-Fi enabled devices by acting as a mobile hotspot.

LG Revolution (VS910) is the first smartphone from LG house to work on Verizon’s 4G-LTE network. It has a 4.3” TFT touchscreen, 1GHz processor with a front facing camera to let you video chat. The main camera on the back has 5 megapixel sensor with features like autofocus, HD camcorder and LED flash. The phone runs Android 2.2 with LG’s custom skin; LG UI. Android platform has integrated flash player for seamless browsing experience. It can act as a mobile hotspot and share its 4G connection with 8 other Wi-Fi enabled devices.

The phone has dimensions of 128x67x13.2mm and weighing 172g. The TFT display used in the device gives a resolution of 480×800 pixels which is fairly bright and clear, but not very impressive when compared to some of the latest displays. Revolution has all standard features of a smartphone such as proximity sensor, gyro sensor, 3.5 mm audio jack at the top and accelerometer.

The phone has a huge internal memory of 16 GB, enough for those who like to keep heavy media files. Even this can be expanded to 32 GB using micro SD cards. There are two cameras with the rear being 5 Mp, auto focus with LED flash, capable of recording HD videos in 720p. The phone is Wi-Fi802.11b/g/n, DLNA, HDMI, mobile hotspot (connects up to 8 devices), GPS with A-GPS, Bluetooth v3.0 with A2DP+EDR.

Revolution comes preloaded with NetFlix, and its SmartShare feature allows the user to share media with friends using DLNA. Revolution is packed with 1500mAh battery that gives a decent talk time of 7 hr and 15 min.

iPhone 4

The iPhone 4 is one of the slimmest and light smartphone with a dimension of 115.2 x 58.6 x 9.3 mm and weighing 137g. The 3.5 inches LED back-lit Retina display is not huge but comfortable enough to read everything because it is extremely bright and sharp with a resolution of 960X640 pixels and still one of the best displays on any smart phone. The touchscreen is highly sensitive and scratch resistant. The phone works very smoothly with a fast processor that is 1GHz Apple A4. iPhone 4 has 512 MB eDRAM, internal memory options of 16 or 32 GB and dual camera – 5 megapixel 5x digital zoom rear camera with LED flash and 0.3 megapixel camera for video calling. The 5 MP camera can capture high quality images and HD videos in 720p.

The remarkable feature of the iPhone devices is the smooth sailing operating system; iOS 4.2.1 and the Safari web browser. The OS is now upgradeable to the newest CDMA version iOS 4.2.8 that has included some useful new features (Read difference between iOS versions). Web browsing on Safari is a pleasant experience and the user has the liberty to download thousands of apps from Apple’s app store. Emailing is fun with this smartphone as there is an excellent full QWERTY virtual keyboard for fast typing. iPhone 4 is Facebook compatible to stay connected with friends with a single touch. The smartphone is available in black and white colors in candy bar form.

For connectivity, the device has Bluetooth v2.1+EDR and Wi-Fi 802.1b/g/n at 2.4 GHz. The additional feature in the CDMA iPhone 4 compared to GSM iPhone 4 is the mobile hotspot capability, where you can connect up to 5 Wi-Fi enabled devices. This feature is now available in GSM model too with the upgrade to iOS 4.3.x

One of the impressive feature of iPhone 4 is its battery life time, rated as 9 hours continuous talktime.

iPhone 4 CDMA model is available with Verizon for $200 (16 GB) and $ 300 (32 GB) on a new 2 year contract. And a data plan is also required for web based applications. The data plan starts at $20 monthly access (2GB allowance).
