Lord and Sir are two titles that show difference between them in terms of their significance and application. Lord is an inherited title or given by a government. It is interesting to note that a Lord can occupy the seat of the House of Lords. As a matter of fact, the House of Lords is the upper House of the British Parliament.

On the other hand, Sir refers to the Knight and hence, it is an honor of Knighthood bestowed on an individual by the Queen. It is important to know that the title ‘Sir’ is given for outstanding service in a field. Sir Vivian Richards is known for his service to the field of the game of cricket. This is the main difference between the two titles, namely, Lord and Sir.

On the other hand, Lord or Lady (title for a female) is a kind of title that comes down through heredity. This practice of conferring the title of Lord has been going on since the medieval times. It is important to know that the title of Sir is lower rank of nobility when compared to the title of Lord.

A knight is a senior member of one of the Orders of Honor. In fact knighthood is an Order to which people are appointed for good service in a particular field. The Order of knighthood is conferred by the title ‘Sir’. In other words it can be said that the upper levels constituted by the Knights and the Knight Commanders can have their names preceded by Sir or Dame. The title of ‘Dame’ is of course bestowed on women.

As a matter of fact the title of ‘Sir’ is usually given to senior diplomats, businessmen, actors, sportspersons, generals and the like. These are the differences between the two titles ‘Lord’ and ‘Sir’.
