Motorola Droid Bionic vs Samsung Droid Charge

Motorola Droid Bionic and Samsung Droid Charge are both 4G LTE phones with huge 4.3 inch displays and both run Android 2.2 with their own user interfaces, Motoblur and TouchWiz respectively. Though both are Droids, Samsung Droid Charge should not be confused with the Motorola Droid lineup. The US carrier for Droid series devices, the Verizon has differentiated Samsung Droid with a red eye logo.

Motorola Droid Bionic

Motorola Droid Bionic uses a dual-core processor with 1GHz clock speed and 512 MB DDR2 RAM. It sports a 8 MP camera with LED flash, auto focus, digital zoom and capable to capture videos at 720p@30fps and holds a VGA camera in the front to use with video calling. The display is 4.3 inch qHD (quarter High Definition) which support 960 x 540 resolution. It has 16GB on-board memory and supports up to additional 32 GB with microSD card. For connectivity it has Wi-Fi 802.11b/g/n, Bluetooth v2.1 +EDR, USB 2.0 HS and HDMI out with Mirroring ( can view on phone and TV screen simultaneously). With HDMI and DLNA users can stream music and videos at 4G speed and share it on a HDTV, playback is supported up to 1080p. The other features include sGPS with Google Maps, Google Latitude and Google Maps street view, eCompass, WebKit browser with Adobe flash player 10.x and a strong battery life (1930 mAh – same as the Atrix 4G battery) with a rated talktime of 9 hours (3G) network. It also can act as moile hotspot and connect up to 5 Wi-Fi enabled devices

The Phone is compatible with 4G-LTE 700 and 3G-CDMA Ev-DO networks and runs Android 2.2 with Motoblur. Motorola Droid Bionic is quite thick and bulky compared to the smartphones in the same period. It measures 13.2 mm thickness and weighs 158g. The dimensions are 125.90 x 66.90 x 13.2 mm.

Samsung Droid Charge

Samsung Droid Charge features 4.3 inch super AMOLED plus WVGA (800 x 480) display and powered by 1GHz Hummingbird processor with 512MB RAM and 512MB ROM. It has an impressive memory capacity (2GB + preloaded 32GB microSD card with support for expansion upto 32GB) and battery life is also very impressive, which is rated at 660min talktime. Droid Charge is compatible with 3G CDMA EvDO and 4G LTE network. You can enjoy the 4G speed in the LTE coverage area. Also you can share your 4G speed with 10 other Wi-Fi enabled devices with the mobile hotspot feature (separate subscription required to use this feature).

Droid Charge is based on Android 2.2 with Samsung’s own TouchWiz 3.0. The OS is upgradeable over the air. Droid Charge is a Google certified device and thus has full access to Google Mobile Service, which is integrated to the handset for one touch access. In addition to this and Android Market, the handset is also loaded with Verizon special Apps and Samsung Apps.

Droid Charge has dual cameras, 8MP camera at the rear and 1.3MP in the front for video chat . For connectivity it has Bluetooth v2.1+EDR and Wi-Fi 802.11b/g/n.

Samsung Droid Charge has exclusive tie up with Verizon. The phone is compatible with Verizon’s 4G-LTE 700 and 3G- CDMA EvDO Rev.A. Verizon promises 5 to 12 Mbps download speeds and upload speeds of 2 to 5 Mbps in 4G Mobile Broadband coverage area. It also support global roaming.

Verizon’s pricing and availability

The phone is available at Verizon’s online store, starting from 3 May 2011. Verizon is offering Droid Charge for $300 on a new two year contract. Customers have to subscribe to a Verizon Wireless Nationwide Talk plan and a 4G LTE data package. Nationwide Talk plans starts from $39.99 monthly access and an unlimited 4G LTE data plan begins at $29.99 monthly access.
