Motorola Droid RAZR vs Droid Bionic
Motorola Mobility unveiled Droid RAZR, a new phone for Verizon Wireless on 18 October 2011. Droid RAZR and Droid Bionic are two of the latest additions to Verizon’s Droid series by Motorola. Both are Android Gingerbread phones, running Android ver. 2.3.5. Motorola Bionic is already in the Verizon shelf from September 2011, but customers have to wait until November to get Droid Razr in hand. The pre-order starts on 27 October. Both phones carry the same price tag, $300 on a new two-year contract. Motorola is introducing Droid Razr as the world thinnest phone 4G LTE phone, with a stunning new record thickness of only 7.1 mm. Motorola Droid Razr is a marvel of design with amazing specs.

Motorola has set a new benchmark on slimness, with an ultra slim 7.1 mm 4G LTE phone. It has a brilliant 4.3” Super AMOLED Advanced display with qHD (960×540 pixels) resolution, made with Kevlar fiber that gives an extra strength and Corning Gorilla glass for scratchproof screen. The phone is protected with water repellent nano coating; internal components also given this nano coating.
Powered by Android 2.3.5 (Gingerbread), Droid Razr is built with 1.2 GHz processor and 1GB RAM. The rear camera is 8 mega pixels with 1080p video cam, and the front facing is also a HD camera. 32 GB memory – 16 GB on board and 16GB preinstalled micro SD card. The battery is a powerful 1780 mAh Li-ion removable.
The other features include Bluetooth 4.0, 4G LTE Mobile Hotspot to connect up to 8 Wi-Fi enabled devices at 4G speed.
For applications, it has Motocast, the free Motorola App in addition to Android Market. NFL Mobile is available for video streaming, and for content, you have Netflix.
Motorola Droid Bionic
Droid Bionic for Verizon’s Droid red series is an Android smart phone officially announced by Motorola at the CES 2011 in January 2011. The device was officially added to Verizon’s Droid shelf in September 2011 with a price tag of $300 on a two-year contract. It is worth the long wait, as it has all the features expected in today’s smart phone. The key features of this smart phone are the 4.3” qHD display, 1GHz dual core processor, 1GB DDR2, 8MP rear camera with full HD video capture, and playback on HDTV with HDMI on mirror mode, 4G LTE connectivity, and 4G Mobile hotspot . In addition, you can turn the device into a mobile notebook with the webtop app and Motorola Lapdock, which is an optional accessory. Let us look at the design, features, and performance in detail.
Motorola Droid Bionic is 5” tall and 2.6” wide. It is quite slim compared to Verizon’s other 4G phones , the phone is impressive at a thickness of 0.43”; still it is not uniform, at the thickest end it is close to 0.45”. The phone weighs 5.6 oz; acceptable for a 4G phone with a huge 4.3” display. With the above dimensions, Droid Bionic has a robust design and feels solid in the hand. Talking about the screen, it has a 4.3” pen-tile capacitive multi touch screen with qHD (540 x 960 pixel) resolution; that is 234 ppi. Though it is not the best display in the market the pixel density remains quite impressive and will compensate for any drawback the display will create; the responsiveness is good too. Also, Motorola has used the Gorilla Glass for the first time over the display. Looking at the ports, it has micro USB, micro HDMI ports and 3.5mm jack for headset. The device also has Accelerometer sensor for UI auto-rotate, Proximity sensor for auto turn-off and a Gyro sensor.
Motorola has favored TI OMAP for processor instead of Nvidia Tegra. A 1 GHz dual core TI OMAP processor with hardware accelerated graphics facilitated by PowerVR SGX 540 GPU powers Droid Bionic. Droid Bionic is complete with 1 GB LP DDR2 RAM and 16 GB worth internal storage for user need. A pre-installed 16GB microSD card also comes with the phone. The storage can be extended using a micro-SD card up to 32 GB.
The camera is another important feature in a multimedia phone. It is no different with regard to Droid Bionic, as well. Droid Bionic is complete with a fabulous 8 mega pixel camera with LED flash and auto-focus. The camera also allows HD video recording at 1080P. The front facing 1.3 MP VGA camera is sufficient for video conferencing. The front facing camera is a colour VGA camera. Pictures taken from the rear facing 8 mega pixel camera is quite appealing and the same goes for the videos.
Motorola Droid Bionic is powered by Android 2.3 (Gingerbread), but the UI is customized with the new Motorola Application platform (Motorola dropped the name Motoblur). Since Motorola Droid Bionic is an Android device, more applications can be downloaded from the Android market and many 3rd party Android markets. In addition, Motorola Droid Bionic is loaded with Google Mobile Apps full suite. Webtop technology is an additional feature in Motorola Droid Bionic. You can turn your mobile into a large screen notebook with the optional LapDock, which is sold separately.
Talking about the performance, call quality is quite impressive. For internet gazers, the browsing experience on Motorola Droid Bionic is excellent with multi window browsing. The pages also load fast. The browser comes with support for flash. In terms of connectivity, the device supports Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, 3G CDMA as well as 4G LTE. It is a world phone capable of international roaming with dual-band CDMA and UMTS support.
Motorola Droid Bionic comes with a 1735 mAh re-chargeable battery. The device reportedly stands for over 10 hours of continuous talk time with 3G on. With the reportedly good performance of the battery, Motorola Droid Bionic will give a good competition to many other high-end smart phones in the market.
