Neck Tie vs Bow Tie
A neck tie and a bow tie are types of tie depending on the length of each. Both are made of fabric and are worn around the neck. These can come in many patterns and shapes and is usually worn when going to a formal gathering or to the office.
Neck Tie
A neck tie is a narrow and long band of fabric, not too long, as long as to reach the waist, worn around the neck and tied in a knot close to the throat. Usually neck ties are worn in order to accentuate a suit. It also comes in varying lengths, designs and fabrics. Also, there are special ways in tying a neck tie, these are: the four-in hand, Pratt, half-Windsor, and the Windsor knot.
Bow Tie
A bow tie is a variant of a necktie in which it is just a bow up to the neck and is usually comes in a ribbon shape. Bow ties are narrow fabrics that are tied around the collar with a center knot and two symmetrical loops forming at the side. There are many bow ties available, some are pre-tied bows and clipped-on, which is easily clipped on to the collar.
Difference between Neck Tie and Bow Tie
The neck tie and bow tie are used by mostly men, and sometimes women, in their suit of attire. The main difference between the two is their length. A neck tie is usually longer than a bow tie. It is worn lengthwise usually just above the waist while a bow tie is just a bow that is only up to the collar. Furthermore, one of the reason why a bow tie is preferred than a necktie is that when using a neck tie there is a good chance that food may spill on to it or because of its length may get tangled in machine.
Using a necktie or a bow tie really depends upon the wearer and the situation it calls for.
