Difference Between Nokia E7 and Nokia N8

Nokia E7 vs Nokia N8

Nokia E7 and Nokia N8 are the reply from Nokia to iPhone and latest touch screen Android phones. The name of Nokia needs no introduction in the field of smartphones and with the launch of its high end smartphone Nokia E7, the company has come up with a phone that is giving iPhone and other Android phones a run for their money. However, there are some who are of the view that E7 is essentially its already successful smartphone N8. There are many similarities between these two smartphones to confuse the people but there are also major differences that will be highlighted in this article.

When one looks at the two smartphones side by side, E7 does look like a N8 clone, but with an enhanced feature of a full QWERTY keypad. It is true that both look alike, running on Nokia’s legendary Symbian 3 operating system. In fact they have the same processor, namely ARM 11 680MHz, and also have the same 512 MB RAM.

Display

While N8 had a 3.5” display with a capacitive AMOLED touchscreen at a resolution of 640 x 360 pixels, the only difference with E7 is that display size has been increased to 4” with a Clear Black technology. Both have accelerometer, compass, proximity sensor and ambient light detector.

Keyboard

Probably the biggest noticeable difference is the addition of a full QWERTY (4-row) keyboard in E7 which was a virtual one in N8. This is why Nokia is promoting this smartphone as a communicator phone.

Size and weight

E7 is bigger in size than N8 and a bit heavier also. Its dimensions are 123.7 x 62.4 x 13.6 mm and it weighs 176 g. In comparison, N8 stands at 113.5 x 59 x 12.9 mm weighing just 135  g. One can judge the difference in bulk with the fact that while E7 has a volume of 97.8cc; N8 has a volume of just 86cc.

Camera

While full QWERTY keypad has been added in E7, it is weaker with regards to camera. In comparison to a strong 12 MP Carl Zeiss auto focus camera of N8, E7 is packed with an 8MP camera that records videos in high definition.

Additional Applications

E7 is rich in terms of applications as it is packed with QuickOffice premium, Adobe PDF, Microsoft Communicator, Web TV, Vingo, World traveler and F-Secure Antitheft features. On the other hand, N8 boasts of just Web TV and QuickOffice viewer.

There are some other differences such as lack of an FM transmitter, micro SD slot and the 2mm charging slot. While N8 had a camera with Xenon Flash, there is dual LED flash in E7. There are slight differences in talk time and standby talk time also. While push to talk feature is available in E7, it is absent in N8. One advantage with E7 lies in the length of videos made. While the user can make video clips up to a length of 168 minutes, with N8 one can make videos up to 90 minutes only. E7 boasts of Real media player which is not there in N8.

While both N8 and E7 are pure entertainers with most of the features being similar, it is the presence of a slider full QWERTY keypad that makes E7 a real smartphone, one that is ideal for business executives. This is the USP of E7, which will make people go for it despite it being substantially costlier than N8.
