Difference Between Nokia Lumia 610 and Nokia Lumia 710

Nokia Lumia 610 vs Nokia Lumia 710 | Speed, Performance and Features Reviewed | Full Specs Compared

Nokia has been the leading mobile phone manufacturer in the world back in early 2000s. After Ericsson moved in with the GSM technology from analog, Nokia became one of the key players in the market. They gradually topped the market with their elegant products which would look like great grandparents of the mobile phones nowadays. They moved on well with the color display phones and the camera phone trend, as well. However, the wave of smartphones weren’t too kind for Nokia since it knocked out Nokia from the dominant position. This was primarily because of the proprietary OS used in Nokia’s mobile phones which was Symbian. It wasn’t evolving fast enough to compete with the emerging OSs like Android, iOS and Windows Mobile. For this reason, sometime in the last year, Nokia decided to embrace Windows Mobile 7.5 Mango and integrated it as the operating system for their Lumia series.

Although that was a leap of faith, the benefits were apparent and Nokia started embracing Windows Mobile more. One of the first handsets that came with Windows Mobile 7.5 Mango is Nokia Lumia 710 which was a moderate handset at that time. Today we were able to get our hands on a more economical design running on Windows Mobile 7.5 Mango. The Nokia Lumia 610 is basically aimed at the amateurs or the first time smartphone buyers in the market. Let us look at these two handsets first and then compare them.

Nokia Lumia 610

Let me start by a foreword; don’t expect a state of the art smartphone from Lumia 610 because it is merely a starter phone aimed at the low end market. The specialty in this one is that Lumia 610 is the cheapest Windows Mobile phone at the market. It comes with 800MHz of processor and 256MB of RAM which affirms the foreword. The operating system is Windows Mobile 7.5 Mango, as predicted, and the device seems to perform quite smoothly, which isn’t surprising with the new improvements introduced with Mango. Lumia 610 has 3.7 inches TFT capacitive touchscreen featuring a resolution of 800 x 480 pixels at a pixel density of 252ppi. The display panel is made scratch-resistant by using Corning Gorilla Glass reinforcement. This handset is small, and it doesn’t seem Nokia was particularly interested in making it slim either.

Nokia Lumia 610 has 5MP camera that has autofocus and LED flash along with geo tagging and facial detection. It can capture VGA quality video as well, but that certainly isn’t appealing. Unfortunately, Lumia 610 won’t support video conferencing because it doesn’t have a front facing camera. The internal storage is 8GB without the option to be expanded by a microSD card. It has Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n in terms of connectivity and exploits the usual HSDPA connection when a wi-fi hotspot can’t be found. The device only supports speeds up to 7.2Mbps. Nokia usually makes their devices colorful and Lumia 610 is not an exception. It comes in White, Cyan, Magenta and Black flavors for the hulk. Nokia promises a talk time of 6 hours 30 minutes with Lumia 610 although we don’t have data to verify that claim.

Nokia Lumia 710

Lumia 710 was released in December, and it seems consumers are excited to get their hands on this beauty. It looks small for a smartphone but considerably thicker than the modern smartphones. Lumia 710 has a 3.7 inches TFT Capacitive touchscreen featuring a resolution of 480 x 800 pixels and a pixel density of 252ppi. It also entertains from Nokia’s generic touches such as, Nokia ClearBlack display, multi touch input, proximity sensor and accelerometer.

Lumia 710 comes with a 1.4GHz Scorpion processor and Adreno 205 GPU on top of Qualcomm Snapdragon chipset. It has hardware accelerated 3D graphics engine, as well. The 512MB RAM seems to be just sufficient, but we’d have liked it to be 1GB for smooth performance. The internal storage is at fix capacity of 8GB and not expandable which is a significant fallback. The much awaited Windows Mobile 7.5 Mango runs on top of this set of hardware. Lumia 710 has a 5MP camera with autofocus, LED flash and Geo-tagging with A-GPS support. It can also record 720p HD videos @ 30 frames per second. As usual, Nokia is to release this handset in a variety of colors including Black, White, Cyan, Fuchsia and Yellow. Because of its fine build, the handset feels good in hand and carries an expensive look too. Lumia 710 also enjoys fast internet browsing with HSDPA 14.4Mbps support and continuous connectivity with the built in Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n.

The active noise cancellation with dedicated mic, Digital Compass, MicroSIM card support and Windows Office support are significant improvements compared to a conventional Nokia handset. Of course, it looks more and more smartphone like by the day. Lumia 710 has a 1300mAh battery, which features a talk time of 6 hours and 50mins.

Conclusion

As the foreword suggests, Nokia Lumia 610 is apparently targeted at a separate market where entrée consumers are considered. It would be appealing to teenagers trying to buy their first smartphone and other low end customers. We can’t guarantee that prices will be very low since Nokia has not indicated anything about pricing, but we can deduct from the specifications that Nokia is trying to get to the aforementioned market and thus some reduction in price can be expected. On the other hand, Nokia Lumia 710 would be ideal for you if you’re looking for a Windows Mobile smartphone with an affordable price since Nokia’s specialty always has been affordability. So the choice becomes yours, and it would only depend on the purpose you’re seeking the phone for.
