4G is where all the action is at the moment, and nearly all service providers are competing with each other to have some of the best 4G capable smartphones in its kitty. In this endeavor, Sprint, a major service provider in the country has announced availability of Nexus S 4G and Motorola Photon 4G to make customers take notice of its offers. Both these smartphones are fully loaded with features and are on Sprint’s 4G WiMAX network. Let us make a quick comparison to see how Motorola Photon 4G fares against Google Nexus S 4G by Samsung?

Google’s Nexus S 4G

No, it is not a new phone as those who have earlier used Google Nexus S by Samsung. However, it is a refreshing new version of Nexus S with enhanced capabilities like 4G speeds and integration with Google voice. Though there is still no provision to increase internal memory through micro SD cards as memory has been capped at 16 GB, it still has the features to lure customers towards it.

The smartphone measures 124x63x11mm and weighs very light at 130g. It boasts of a nice 4 inch super AMOLED touch screen that is highly capacitive and produces a resolution of 480×800 pixels. It allows multi touch input method, has a light sensor to save on precious battery, and is equipped with a proximity sensor. It also has accelerometer, gyroscope and a digital compass.

Nexus S 4G runs on the latest stock Android 2.3 Gingerbread, has a single core, 1 GHz Cortex A8 processor and packs a decent 512 MB of RAM. It is a dual camera device with the rear one being 5 MP, auto focus with LED flash camera. It is capable of HD video recording in 720p at 30fps. It also has a front, VGA camera (0.3 MP) to allow for video calling.

Nexus S 4G is Wi-Fi802.11b/g/n, DLNA, Bluetooth v2.1 with EDR, GPS with A-GPS and an HTML browser with Flash support making for seamless surfing.

Nexus S 4G is packed with standard Li-ion battery (1500mAh) that provides a talk time of 6 hours.

As the premier phones from Google Nexus S and Nexus S 4G are the first devices to get the software updates immediately on release.

Motorola Photon 4G

If you like Sprint’s service, and also desire super fast phone that provides blazing 4G speeds, then your quest is over with the new Motorola Photon 4G. It is a hell of a smartphone that operates at maximum efficiency to match the lifestyles of those in the fast lane. The smartphone has webtop application that allows the user to get content on his laptop. Photon has a huge 4.3 inch screen with a kickstand that allows viewing videos without having to hold it in one’s hands.

Photon 4G measures 126.9×66.9×12.2mm and weighs only 158g. (Smartphones are really getting slimmer and lighter!) It boasts a monstrous 4.3 inch touch screen that produces a resolution of 540×960 pixels, competing with the best in the business in terms of brightness.

Photon has 16 GB of onboard memory and allows 32 GB to be added through micro SD cards. It has 1 GB of DDR2 RAM and 16 GB ROM. It runs on Android 2.3 Gingerbread and has a very powerful 1 GHz dual core NVIDIA Tegra 2 processor that provides for multitasking and super fast performance.

It is a dual camera device with the rear 8 MP one, capable of recording HD videos in 720p. It is HDMI capable and produces HD videos in 1080p as output on your TV. For connectivity, the smartphone is Wi-Fi802.11b/g/n, GPS with A-GPS, Bluetooth v2.1, GPS, 4G WiMAX radio, and it’s a world phone with international GSM capabilities.

Photon 4G is packed with standard Li-ion battery (1700mAh) that provides a talk time of up to 10 hours on CDMA and more than 10 hours on GSM.
