Difference Between Nokia Lumia 710 and N8-00

Nokia Lumia 710 vs N8 | Speed, Performance and Features

Nokia has been targeting the mobile phone market rather than targeting the smartphone market, and that has made them lose their market share. As a remedy, Nokia is making changes to its proprietary Symbian OS to make it more iOS or Android like and it is also adapting Windows Mobile as their operating system. What we have here is a comparison between those two hybrid models of Nokia. While Nokia N8 runs on an improved version of Symbian OS, Lumia 710 runs on Windows Mobile 7.5 Mango. The market trend analysts are predicting that Nokia will breakeven their losses if they keep continuing this trend, so it is safe for us to assume that both Nokia N8 and Lumia 710 are up to the smartphone standard. That of course is the macro view, let us get in to the micro view and look at the individual parameters of the competitors.

Nokia N8-00 (Nokia N8)

Nokia N8-00 is rather an old phone in any context, to be precise; it has been more than a year since it was released in October 2010. But as I mentioned above, Nokia has been making changes to its operating system and even though the hardware is below average, the operating system does a good job in maintaining the standard of the phone. N8 has a 680 MHz ARM 11 processor and a Broadcom BCM2727 GPU. It also has a 512MB RAM which is a good addition. N8 originally comes with Symbian^3 OS, but can be updated to Symbian Anna OS. So whenever we compare, we’ll be considering the Anna OS as the OS version of Nokia N8.

It comes with a 16GB storage which can be expanded up to 32GB using a microSD card. Nokia N8 supports high-speed internet access via HSDPA 10.2 Mbps and the Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n enables continuous connectivity. It comes in Dark grey, Silver, White, Green, Blue, Orange and Pink and feels somewhat bulky, yet ok to keep in hand. The 3.5inches AMOLED Capacitive touchscreen gives rise to a resolution of 360 x 640 with a pixel density of 210ppi.

The differentiating factor in the Nokia N8 is the camera. The 12MP camera stands to be one of the best cameras in any smartphone up to date. It has Carl Zeiss optics with a Tessar lens and comes with autofocus, face recognition, image stabilizer, Xenon flash, ND filter and a high aperture. It can also record 720p HD videos at 30 frames per second. The VGA front camera bundled with Bluetooth v2.0 gives an admirable time to video chatters. Besides the generic Nokia features, N8 comes with a HDMI TV-out with 720p video, Anodized aluminum casing, active noise cancellation with a dedicated mic and a digital compass. It also supports flash lite, though the performance is quite sloppy. Nokia N8-00 has a 1200 mAh battery and 12 hours of talk time, which is really good.

Nokia Lumia 710

Nokia has actually performed a leap of faith by embracing the newest Windows Mobile 7.5 Mango OS for their handsets. Lumia is due to be released at the end of this month, and it seems consumers are equally excited to get their hands on this beauty. It looks small for a smartphone, and considerably thicker than the modern smartphones. Lumia 710 has a 3.7 inches TFT Capacitive touchscreen featuring a resolution of 480 x 800 pixels and a pixel density of 252ppi. It also entertains from Nokia’s generic touches such as, Nokia ClearBlack display, multi touch input, proximity sensor and accelerometer.

Lumia 710 comes with a 1.4GHz Scorpion processor and Adreno 205 GPU on top of Qualcomm Snapdragon chipset. It has hardware accelerated 3D graphics engine, as well. The 512MB RAM seems to be just sufficient, but I’d have liked it to be 1GB for smooth performance. The internal storage is at fix capacity of 8GB and not expandable which is a significant fallback. The much awaited Windows Mobile 7.5 Mango runs on top of this set of hardware. Lumia 710 has a 5MP camera with autofocus, LED flash and Geo-tagging with A-GPS support. It can also record 720p HD videos @ 30 frames per second. As usual, Nokia is to release this handset in a variety of colors including Black, White, Cyan, Fuchsia and Yellow. Because of its fine build, the handset feels good in hand and carries an expensive look. Lumia 710 also enjoys fast internet browsing with HSDPA 14.4Mbps support and continuous connectivity with the built in Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n.

The active noise cancellation with dedicated mic, Digital Compass, MicroSIM card support and Windows Office support are significant improvements compared to a conventional Nokia handset. And of course, it looks more and more smartphone like by the day. Lumia 710 has a 1300mAh battery which features a talk time of 6 hours and 50mins.

Conclusion

We have to accept the fact that Nokia N8-00 is becoming old day by day and support for it would be less and less. In the arena where Nokia is adopting Windows Mobile, we frankly can’t expect any more updates to Nokia N8. That can be clearly deduced by the fact that, it didn’t receive Symbian OS Belle update. Thus for security, the user might want to explore other options rather than going into a Nokia N8-00. But we have to say, N8 still stands as one of the best in the camera lineup of smartphones. That been said, Lumia 710 is also not a matured smartphone, and we can go for it as early adapters. We can say this much; Nokia Lumia 710 comes with very well laid hardware specifications, and Windows is desperately trying to expand their borders, so the Windows Mango OS would be well optimized. This would mean that Nokia Lumia 710 would come to be recognized as a trending smartphone in the market.
