Getting to know the difference between rock music and classical music is important to music students as they are both genres and styles of music, each unique in itself. Usually when one mention these two types, one may think that they are not very different from one another. However, there are quite a few differences between rock music and classical music.

What is Rock Music?

Rock is a music genre originating from a mix of varying genres around 1940s-1950s. This style is usually characterized by drums, electronic guitars as well as powerful vocals. Rock is a popular genre of music today among both adults and teenagers alike. However, due to the loudness and the aggressiveness of its beats, rock is more of a niche genre of music catering mostly to lovers of the genre of rock.

What is Classical Music?

Classical music is usually defined as of Western in origin. This type of music needs mastery. Usually only the affluent have the interest in this form of music back in medieval times. This is presented in a full orchestra, so performing classical music requires funds. It requires time, effort, determination and much practice to be perfected and done correctly as it is a more complex form of music.

What is the difference between Rock Music and Classical Music?

Rock music can be heard anywhere every day, but classical music can only be heard at specific settings such as an opera house or a performance. Classical pieces are quite long whereas rock songs are just a couple of minutes in length. Rock music is usually loud, and its rhythm is usually fast while classical is soothing to the ears, and its pace is slow. When it comes to rock music, the image of night clubs and bands are usually associated. However, when it comes to classical music, the image of gowns and suits are conjured. Rock music and classical music might differ, but one is encouraged to listen to both these forms whatever their preferences and mood require.
