Samsung JS9000 4K SUHD LED TV Review – Features and Specifications

The Samsung JS9000 Series TVs are one of Samsung’s best models produced in 2015. The TV is a 4K SUHD 3D LED TV, which comprises of many strengths to outperform its competitors.

LED lighting

Samsung has the strongest LEDs produced in the industry. Although edge lit LEDs have their weaknesses, Samsung TVs do a decent job with the images produced in the display. These powerful LEDs brighten up the light flow through the colors and also enhance deep blacks and white peaks to optimum levels. Although these TVs are not as great as some of the backlit LED full array TVs in the market, it’s not far behind either. As mentioned earlier, the light flow created by Samsung is a key feature in producing natural colors assisted by strong contrast features.

UHD Dimming

The image quality of the screen requires a lot of precision in terms of color, contrast, and detail. These are the pieces of the puzzle that need to be put together and coordinate to create an excellent image. This job is done better by full array micro dimming which plays a major role in the contrast factor. The UHD dimming does not enhance the color and contrast compared to the micro dimming technology

Upscale Factor

With upscaling technology, standard and high definition videos can be upscaled to produces better quality video. These videos will be rich in detail, even though the original may be lower in resolution. Noise reduction and enhancing details are key features available with upscaling. This technology is only second to Sony, which is able to produce better picture quality than Samsung depending on the model compared.

SUHD

The SUHD TV is an upgrade of the UHD. It is powered by a color system called DCI P3 which has a wider color range in the box. The wide range of colors is further enhanced by Nano Crystal Technology. This is a competing technology against the Quantum Dot, which has been deployed by some of the other leading brands. With the combination of both the technologies,  the image is more clean and refined, and the color is also improved.  The backlit technology available with the TV is able to produce brighter images, and deep blacks at the same time.

Color

Nano Crystal Technology is the main feature of improvements in color. Between the LCD/LED and the protective front glass lies an ultra-thin film layer called QDEF, which is also known as the  Nanolayer. The wide range of colors is diffused using the Nano crystal layer to produce great vibrant imagery. The Nano Crystal assists the TV in producing more colors than on a conventional LCD. The Nano Technology, Quantum Technology, and Organic light emitting diodes all compete to bring the best colors to the surface of the panel. The NanoCrystal Technology is able to produce cleaner, clear and refined images compared with the 4K UHD models.

Auto Motion

As a default, the Auto Motion plus is turned on. It should be turned off when streaming videos, playing DVDs, Blu- rays, and viewing TV shows. The auto motion feature eliminates background blur and gives the image an unrealistic look, but this feature can be disabled. The Auto motion has been tailor-made to support sporting and 3D content.

Motion Rate

The refresh rate is 240Hz. This fast refresh rate is possible due to the technology within the Samsung smart TV.

Calibration

This model comes with preset modes like Movie, Standard, Game, and video. The game mode is special as it is able to reduce the lag of the games.

Tizen Operating Smart TV

The Tizen operating system is faster, accurate and responsive than its previous operating menu systems. It is also capable of remembering where the user left off in a program. The smart hub is well organized with its programs and apps. Although there are a lot of advantaged in this OS, it is less smooth than some of the Android TV systems which are present in some TV models. It is disappointing that Spotify is not an inclusion in this model. The remote that accompanies the smart TV is light and easy to use. It is able to operate on point click basis which is a plus. One of the problems with this remote is that  it takes time to get used to, and the functions on the remote are limited at the same time.

3D TV

When 3D content is inserted, the settings will automatically change to 3D viewing. 3D picture setting preset is a great way to watch 3D movies. This model comes with a pair of 3D glasses. The combination of 3D with 4K produces crystal clear detail. This TV is with built-in 3D functionality for viewing.

Processor

This smart TV comes with an octa-core processor for fast and efficient processing

Audio

The audio quality is not great as the TV is very thin. the sound bar can be installed to upgrade the audio quality.

Design, Appearance

The TV comes with a curved screen which is supported by a charcoal frame bezel. The curved screen is usually made to enhance the side angle view. But in this situation, it has been designed from an appearance point of view for the model. The T-shaped stand also has an elegant touch of its own. To keep the TV slimmer, it comes with a One connect mini box which comes with the HDMI inputs and USB inputs.

Performance

Among the 4K UHD TVs, this model is fully featured. This produces great pictures although there are some downsides like audio quality and remote functions

LG EG9600 4K OLED TV Review – Features and Specifications

These TVs can be considered a part of the future, but the LG EG9600 4K OLED TVs brings the future to you, today. These models come with UHD 4K for crystal clear clarity filled images. Only Sony and Samsung top tier UHD 4K model can come close to the picture quality produced by these models. It is a noteworthy fact that, LG OLED models won the CES 2015 awards for best picture quality in the TV industry.

Picture Quality

The small issue with OLED models is that pixelating artifacts may occur due to upscaling. This is much smoother on LCD, LED 4K TVs with combined benefits of color accuracy. But contrast, color, black levels and the side angle view of the OLED TVs are better than those of LED 4K TVs.

Color

The range of the blacks produced is infinite when compared to the OLED TVs. It could be argued that contrast is better in 4K LEDs due to the backlights which produce brighter images, but the deep blacks cannot be compared with the OLED which are superior. The deep black display produces more colored and contrast-rich images which are detailed and pop out. When it comes to picture quality, deep black OLEDs win over bright backlit LED screens due to the sharp color filled vibrant images they are able to produce. Competitors are trying to deploy technologies like Quantum Dot and Nano crystal layers to compete with OLEDs. The images produced are incomparable with the existing TVs in the market giving it the crown in picture quality.

 Side Angle View

In conventional LED and LCDs, viewing the display from an angle will cause the display to fade. The OLED TVs, on the other hand, comprise of every pixel being lit by an electrode which produce great side angle view like plasma TVs. Actually OLEDs do not need to curve the screen as side angle view will have the same quality as that when the screen is flat. The only reason for the curve could be to enhance the style and design of the TVs.

Upscale 4k

This could be one of the important factors when buying a 4K UHD TV. As pure 4K content is rare, upscaling lower resolution to 4K would allow us to enjoy 4K technology. LG uses technology like Tru 4K upscale which uses algorithms for a smooth transition from the low-resolution video.  Comparatively, the upscale is not up to make as clarity is lost in even higher definition videos.

Appearance and Design

As there is no side angle viewing issue, the curved has to be designed to enhance the appearance of the smart TV model. With the plexi stand, which is transparent, the design is called a floating curve. The screen is supported by a thin frame which is also attractive and beautiful.

Smart TV features

The smart TV functions have been enhanced to perform faster with the use of WebOS 2.0. The boot up is faster but not as fast as an Android TV platform. This model comes with the Magic remote, and the user interface is intuitive and easy to use. There are many useful options that come with the WebOS 2.0. LG TV user can stream Go Pro videos over the internet which is an exclusive feature. Sling TV and IheartRadio are some noteworthy applications supported by WebOS 2.0

Audio

Audio quality is up to mark with this model and uses Harman Kardon audio technology.

Gaming

The input lag on the system in gaming mode is 45.5ms. But, even out of gaming mode, the input lag value is 60ms, which is better than many other TVs in the market.

3D

3D performance stands at a new level with the use of 4K resolution and the OLED panel.
