Study vs Studies
Study and Studies are two words that are often confused when it comes to their usage. It is important to know that both these words are different from each other and they convey different meanings for that matter.
The word ‘study’ is used in the sense of ‘learn’. On the other hand, the word ‘studies’ is used in the sense of ‘research’. This is the main difference between the two words. In fact, it can be said that the word ‘studies’ has the suggestive meaning of ‘research’. Otherwise, it is used as the simple present form of the verb ‘study’ as in the sentence ‘he studies well’.
Observe the two sentences
1. Francis has to study for two more years.
2. Angela studied very well.
In both the sentences, you can find that the word ‘study’ is used in the sense of ‘learn’ and hence, the meaning of the first sentence would be ‘Francis has to learn for two more years’, and the meaning of the second sentence would be ‘Angela learned very well’.

2. The studies made in the field of linguistics have found new truths.
In both the sentences, you can see that the word ‘studies’ is used in the sense of ‘research’ and hence, the first sentence can be rewritten as ‘his research paid off’, and the second sentence can be rewritten as ‘the research made in the field of linguistics have found new truths’.
It is interesting to note that the word ‘study’ is sometimes used in the sense of ‘schoolwork’ as in the sentence ‘he completed his study for the day’. In this sentence, the word ‘study’ has a peculiar meaning of ‘school work’. It is important to know that the words ‘study’ and ‘studies’ are used as nouns. The word ‘study’ is used as verb too.
