Telstra 4G LTE (FD-LTE) vs Vividwireless 4G LTE (TD-LTE) in Australia
Telstra LTE (FD-LTE) and Vividwireless LTE (TD-LTE) are two flavours of LTE technology that are going to be used in 4G network in Australia by Telstra and VividWireless. Telstra will use its existing 2G spectrum (1800MHz) to deploy 4G LTE network with FD-LTE technology, initially in the CBDs in major cities. Vividwireless is a very new company that entered telecommunication industry only in 2010 with the launch of its 4G wireless broadband network in Perth in March, 2010. VividWireless is expanding its network to the central CBDs in major cities. Vividwireless has the licence for 70 MHz and 100 MHz of 2.3 GHz and 3.5 GHz spectrum in every Australian capital city, except Hobart and Darwin. It is currently using its 2.3 GHz spectrum for its WiMAX network in Perth and providing service with the Huawei USB modem. It has planned to upgrade its Wimax network using TD-LTE technology, where TD stands for time division multiplexing. It will partner with Huawei in network deployment. Vividwireless boasts it can achieve download speed of 40-70Mbps and upload at 4-7Mbps with its TD-LTE network.
Telstra the Telco giant in Australia has announced that they are planning to launch 4G LTE Network later this year. Chief Executive Officer of Telstra Mr. David Thodey announced at the World Mobile Conference 2011 in Barcelona that Telstra plans to upgrade its existing Next G (3G Network) network with Long Term Evolution (LTE) technology. It will be reallocating its 1800 MHz 2G spetrum for the 4G LTE network, since more than 80% of its customers are now on 3G network. It will be utilizing standard LTE (Long Term Evolution) technology in 4G network which is also known as FD-LTE, FD stands for frequency division multiplexing. Telstra will be using Ericsson equipment for the network upgrade. Telstra expects to achieve a minimum speed of 21Mbps for download.
| Difference Between FD-LTE and TD-LTE
• FD-LTE uses frequency division multiplexing. It uses two separate channels to carry data, one for upload and another for download. • TD-LTE uses time division multiplexing, it utilize single channel for bothway data transmission. The bandwidth is allocated depending on need. When uploading you can’t download and vice versa. • FD-LTE and TD-LTE use different bands on the wireless spectrum. Telstra will use 1800MHz spectrum while Vividwireless will use 2.3 GHz spectrum. |
