Thriller vs Horror

Thriller and horror are genres of movies that are very similar to each other. After all many people get a lot of thrill and excitement watching horror. Similarly, many movies that are meant to provide thrill to the audience contain elements that can be said to belong to horror. Because of overlapping of aspects, some people remain confused about the genre of the movie. This article is meant to remove all confusion between thriller and horror by highlighting their features.

Horror

God knows why, but there is a tendency among most of us to be terrified. Human beings derive vicarious pleasure out of fear and horror but only when they know that they are not going to be harmed in reality. People go to watch such movies despite knowing that all that they see on screen is not real. They feel satisfied as long as they are scared during the movie. Of course, there is a limit to getting petrified. There are movies that make people scream and run for cover or safety in between the movies as many feel they cannot take any more of the fear. Monsters and devils with horrific facial features are used to strike fear in the minds of audiences, when these characters suddenly catch hold of the actors with our sympathies in the movie.

Thriller

Thriller is a genre that is very broad as human beings derive thrill or kick out of many types of activities. For example, thrill can be generated by creating suspense around a plot. The curiosity to know the killer in a story is what produces suspense and, therefore, a lot of thrills. However, there are many more ways in which thrill can be generated in the minds of audiences. Seeing a magician perform tricks is an activity that can produce a lot of thrills. But this is not a subject of thrillers, and mostly such movies take help of suspense around the story to create thrill for the audiences. Movie makers have often taken recourse to horror, to generate thrill in their movies, and as long as the hero or heroine is away from the clutches of the monster, audiences are thrilled, but their thrill gives way to horror when it seems monster is winning in the movie.
