Tiger vs Leopard

Tiger and Leopard are animals that are most commonly seen in the wild. Both are classified as large cats or felines and are not domesticated. Often times we see a leopard and a tiger in a zoo but most of them are living freely in the wild.

Tigers

Tigers are one of the largest felines to walk on earth; a tiger can reach a weight of 500 pounds others even more. Tigers are very powerful animals. Tigers have typical rusty red coats with white median areas. Stripes are the most distinguishing characteristic of a tiger which may vary from brown to black. Tigers are territorial and tend to become aloof.

Leopard

The smallest among the four big cats that weighs around 140 pounds is the leopard. It also belongs to the feline family but is the smallest among them all. Being agile and stealthy, leopards can take very large kills because of their massive strength. They have circular or rosette patterns which appear as spotted. Their fur color depends on the climate that they live in. Leopards have longer body and shorter legs.

Difference between Tiger and Leopard

Tigers are the biggest among the largest four big cats while leopards are the smallest among the big cat categories (the other two are lion and jaguar). A tiger can reach a gigantic weight of 500 pounds; leopard weighs only by 140 pounds. Physically, both creatures vary with great distinction, if tigers have stripes; a leopard has spots. A tiger is good at swimming; leopards are excellent with tree climbing. Tigers are smaller in length compared to leopards. However, tigers are strong or have stronger limbs compared to leopards. Leopards are also agile and fast in comparison to tigers.

Both animals are well respected in the wild. However, they are haunted by hunters who at times have no regard for the balance of life. It is best to understand that these animals play an important role in our eco system.
