What is Vaseline?

Vaseline is a trade name of a form of petroleum jelly, which is highly pure and has other components such as minerals and microcrystalline wax. This is a common household product. We use it as a skin protecting agent, lotion, cleansing the skin, etc. This compound is smoother than normal petroleum jelly. In addition, it has a fragrance similar to baby powder.

This product is available as lotions, creams or ointments. Moreover, we can use this product as a lubricant. And another importance is that Vaseline can heal minor cuts and burns.

What is Petroleum Jelly?

Petroleum jelly is a semi-solid containing hydrocarbons. It may or may not be the pure form because there can be impurities. The first discovered petroleum jelly was a stiff waxy compound which people called “rod wax”. And also, it was black in color. This compound is produced directly from petroleum oil.

Therefore, it has a smell similar to the petroleum oil. If we produce this compound from pure petroleum oil, then this jelly becomes translucent and semi-solid. The major applications include lubrication, coating, moisturizing, etc. Moreover, we can use this compound as a treatment for fungal diseases on the skin, genital rashes, diaper rashes and also, we can use it for cosmetic purposes.
