Wikileaks vs Openleaks
The founder of the Wikileaks “Julian Assange” in short time will find himself attacked by another rival or an unlikely source. It has come to known that Wikileaks defectors are now planning to launch another rival in next few weeks. It is reported in a Swedish news paper that Wikileaks operators including the right hand of Mr. Assange, Daniel Schmitt, have been planning for the rival “Openleaks”. The formers say that this site will be more transparent than the original one.
Wikileaks
Wikileaks is a non-profit international organization, it is well known for submitting the publications of secret, private and classified media from many different anonymous sources of news and news leaks. This website was launched in the year 2006 and it was in the move by the Sunshine press, it claimed a huge database of more than 1.3 million documents whiting a year, in which it was launched. Many sources and organizations have described about its founders as a mix of journalists, Chinese dissidents, mathematicians and startup company technologists from the Taiwan, America, Australia, South Africa and Europe. The director of Wikileaks is Mr. Julian Assange; he is an Australian internet activist. This site was originally launched as user edited wiki site, but this site moved towards the more traditional publication model, and now this site do not accept any comment or edits by users.
Openleaks
Openleaks is newly planned whistle blowing website. The former German representative of Wikileaks Mr. Daniel berg announced that this site is to be launched in December 2010. MR. Berg represented this website as a technology project that is really aiming to be a service provider for other parties, those who want to accept different material from the anonymous sources. Mr. Berg said that the Openleaks will be more clear and transparent than the Wikileaks. They say that the organization has not been open that much in last few months, they says that the organization has lost its open-source promise. This site has been planned to start in the beginning of 2011.
Difference between Wikileaks and Openleaks:
The news says that the Openleaks will work same as the Wikileaks; the goals are too much similar of both websites. But the news website “Openleaks” will not host the leaked documents, but this site will act as the middleman between those persons who want to obtain all the leak material and whistleblowers. The news tells us that Openleaks will work slightly different from Wikileaks, but it work with the same intent, Openleaks will allow all whistleblowers to leak all the sensitive information. The very main difference in both websites is that the Openleaks will not publish the documents directly, but this site will offer others to publish the material.
Conclusion:
It is very true that the purpose and intentions of both sites are pretty much similar. It some ways this thing is clear that even if American Government was successful is creating the Wikileaks; it would not stop the general trend towards institutions and systems, which are designed to help the whistleblowers.
