Winter Ball vs Winter Formal

Winter ball and winter formal are social dance gatherings attended by many people especially by high school students, with the event being hosted by their school. Basically these two gatherings are similar to each other in the sense that they both are done in winter and both require formal wear.

Winter Ball

A winter ball is a gathering, much similar to a prom, where people are expected to dance and have fun. Ballroom dance may also occur during this ball but not required. Attendees are advised to wear formal evening dress. Oftentimes, winter ball are organized for fund-raising activities rather than just for social gatherings. In addition to this, a winter ball is always held during the winter season.

Winter Formal

A winter formal is most often held in the middle of the school year. It is usually held during the winter season just in between the homecoming and prom events. High school students normally attend this as school-sponsored event. Winter formal also requires attendees to wear formal evening attire when attending and are expected to dance with a partner, preferably.

Difference between a Winter Ball and Winter Formal

A winter ball and winter formal has many similarities although they have a thin line of differences. For one, winter ball and winter formal all occurs during the winter season and all participants should wear a formal evening wear. But a winter ball may be attended by not only high school students but by any individuals as well because a winter ball may be either supported by the school or run by an organization for fundraising. Whereas a winter formal is typically initiated by the school for their high school students and is sometimes called “Winterfest” or Queen of Hearts Dance.

Sure thing though, a winter ball or a winter formal is a way to socialize and have fun with partners and peers.
