What is the Difference Between Garage and Carport

The key difference between garage and carport is that a garage is a fully enclosed structure with a door and a large shutter, whereas a carport is a structure that has two or more open sides.

Both garages and carports are almost similar and offer protection to your vehicle from wind, sun, and rain. They also provide different levels of storage space. They can be either connected to a side of your home or made as a free-standing building.

What is a Garage?

A garage is a fully enclosed structure that has a large door and a large shutter. Since they are fully enclosed, they keep out everything in the environment that harm the car.

There are different types of garages, like single garages, which have space for a single medium-sized car and storage space. There are also double garages which are wider. They have space for two medium-sized cars. There are triple and quadruple garages as well. They are much wider. There are also tandem garages, which are one car wide but deep enough to fit two medium-sized cars.

Garages have solid walls, and they can be made from concrete, timber, brick, and steel. They can be matched with the design of the main property. Since they have good storage space and are fully covered and secure, garages are sometimes used as home gyms, living spaces, or offices.

What is a Carport?

A carport is a partially covered structure that offers limited protection to vehicles. Generally, carports have a roof and are attached to the building from one side, while the other side has supporting pillars. These can be made easily, with less labor and fewer materials. Carports can also be used as barbecue areas, play areas, or workshops. Since carports are partially open, they have enough ventilation. But carports are difficult to be heated or cooled easily because of their open sides and thin walls.

There are various types of carports made with different materials. There are metal carports made of steel, aluminium, or iron. Their roof can be constructed out of plastic, glass, or acrylic panels. Metal carports can be powder coated so that they are resistant to corrosion. Wooden carports have a flat or peaked roof. They have four or more wooden support columns. These are similar to garden sheds. There are also double or triple carports, which have much space in them.
