Foundation vs Powder
From the old days, when makeup was restricted to a few items only, it has advanced now to a level where there are hundreds of beauty products to choose. Make up has become an art unto itself with the power to enhance the beauty and confidence of a person. Two beauty products that look similar and also work in more or less the same manner are foundation and powder. Most people know about powder having used talcum powder in their lives. There are many people who remain confused between powder and foundation as to how much of either to be used on one’s face, to have an appearance that looks flawless. This article attempts to find out the differences between the two beauty products and their properties to enable readers to make the best use of powder and foundation while applying makeup.
Foundation is a creamy beauty product that comes in several skin tones and has to be used to even out the color tone of the face. Foundation is usually applied first on the face so as to prevent the cheeks look redder than the rest of the face. Foundation is taken out on the palm and applied all around the face until the skin tone is the same all over the face. It is a fact that most of us have this or the other problem with our facial skins. To cover these minor problems, foundation is a perfect beauty product as it provides full coverage and can be applied up to the hairline and across the face up to the ears. However, one has to be careful not to use too much of foundation lest her face starts to look as if she has worn a mask.
There are many different types of foundations available in the market with some being in a matt finish while some others being in a shimmery finish. It all depends upon your preference and what sort of look you want for yourself while going for a foundation. There are foundations that are applied with the help of brushes while there are also foundations that are applied using sponges. Some are liquid to be spread across the face using fingers. One has to rub the foundation over the face so as it blends with the color of the skin.
Powder is a beauty product that can be used alone but mostly ladies use it after applying foundation on their faces. This is done to allow the foundation to set on the face. Powders come as loose and in pressed form in the shape of compacts. They are used to give a slight color to the face and to make the facial tone look even after foundation has been applied.
Compact powders are easier to carry in a vanity bag and one can use the powder whenever required with the help of a brush. However, pressed powder called a compact is not capable of giving as flawless an appearance as loose powder. Powders take out any shine from the face that may have been left after applying the foundation. They then keep the foundation in for a long time.
